Just a friendly reminder that we still have more active Covid cases then anytime during this pandemic save for the peak we are downtrending from. The states dropping requirements in another 1-2 weeks are ahead of the national pace and experiencing dramatically lower Covid numbers. Give it time, there is no reason currently to expect any change in trajectory in the short to medium term. We will be at low levels before Easter.

You must live in the south then. I'm absolutely loving my cloth mask on top of a surgical one at the moment. It's cold out! Garage door froze shut again. Wearing a hat takes pressure off the ears too with masks and more comfy than a scarf! Keeps me warmer if I don't want to bother removing because of gloves on too. (All said partially in jest, but truly why I don't mind now, mask instead of scarf and it stays put!)
I do live in the south. To put into perspective how much it bothers me to breathe through a mask, I was skiing in Vail last week. On two of the days, at the top of the mountain the high was 8° and started in the negatives. At one point before she added more hand warmers after 15 minutes indoors to warm up, my wife's fingers were turning purple (after less than an hour skiing)

Most of the time I preferred to have my face be frigid rather than cover my nose and mouth with my neck warmer. It was just too annoying to breath through.

If it works for you and keeps you warm and comfortable then I'm glad something positive comes out of it! For me, it is very uncomfortable to breath through a mask of any kind.

I have actually found a KN95 mask to be warmer than any gator/balaclava that I own!

I haven't found legit KN95 in my size so only using a cloth mask on top of surgical. The cloth ones are triple layered and fantastic. No messing around with scarves and I agree warmer than a balaclava I have. More comfortable too

I get people think they aren't comfortable but I'm a bit over the breathing part. If my choir can sing with 3+ layer masks. Or if the hockey players can play with KN95, you can breathe just fine. Sorry but that's an argument I am so tired of hearing.

Finding them uncomfortable is different though. They absolutely hurt my scar tissue on my ears and being small faced, my options are limited. I get comfort aspects. Which is why winter is better for me with hats. Summer time I hate them for comfort, but not breathability.

As a Midwestern gal who gets negatives to 100 (so wear masks here in a lot of ranges) I cannot see how anyone finds bare face in winter in negatives easy to breath. There's a reason why we call it snot freezing cold.

That's legit. I can accept that this is your decision. It has consequences, but nothing wrong with accepting those consequences.

What I'm less willing to accept is forcing those consequences on everyone else.

Which effectively means, in situations where spread is high, vaccination status is unknown, and even a little reduction created by masks can have a large impact. Just opt out of those. Don't force everyone else to settle for the even lower reduction provided by only some masking instead of everyone.

Want to have less of those, get more people vaccinated and boosted. Especially boosted, it's more clear every day that the booster isn't some optional thing but just part of the vaccine schedule.

Which is back to what I posted earlier. Everyone who is tired of all the only slight reduction mitigation items (masks, distance, capacity, whatever), all of them should be demanding vaccine mandates. That's the fastest way to eliminate the need for anything else.

Entire planet* gets Omicron yet masks still have a benefit? Yeah ok, I suppose…

* obvious sarcasm.

If the massive amount of people getting infected with this variant, masked or not didn’t prove that they ain’t stopping jack crap? There is no amount of convincing that is going to stop people from clinging to them.

If people want to keep wearing them I see no issue. Mandating them? Getting swatted down in quite a few places.

How did you come to the conclusion that cases counts wouldn't have been even higher without masks?

It's not really an argument. It's a statement. I didn't say I had "difficulty" breathing, I said I had "discomfort" breathing. I don't like the feeling. It might not bother you but it bothers me.

I don't like the taste of most seafood and you might love it. Neither of us would be wrong but we have different likes and dislikes. We wouldn't be arguing over seafood, we'd just each be expressing our personal preference.
