You know what's funny?
Andrew C I’m not joking. We have far more unvaccinated people then Europe. Hospitals being overrun is a very real possibility.
Maybe. But we also have more hospital capacity than counties in Europe. And hospitalization rates are not like delta so far. And the drop in cases will happen as quickly as the rise. And no one is locking down to delay the inevitable again.

Just wait until hospitals start turning people away and trains, heart attacks, strokes and sepsis start killing like they used to a century ago. We needed to lock down last week, instead mass deaths await.
I known you are trying to prove a point but a week or so ago this happened to a friend. They're okay now but went into sepsis due to no rooms available. No way is anyone locking down. Too little too late

It is too late, but in 2-3 weeks everyone will out of fear.

Not trying to be a jerk but the reason for the love response is that they had this coming when it was decided Covid was over in the Summer.

Don't need to lockdown but there isn't any reason why restrictions like Ontario has can't be put in place.

Article on the ever-expanding list of Milwaukee businesses shutting down for the next week or have canceled NYE events.

No they won’t. They will just declare what happens as unavoidable.

As if the inability to control the storm meant we had an inability to impact the damage.
Oh most will, when the stories come out of hospitals having a line of ambulances people will realize how real it is.

It's not about control. It's about the speed at which we hit the wall. Our choices are full-speed (which is less than the full-speed we would have been traveling before vaccines) or keep trying to pump the breaks. How full-speed became the "reasonable" choice over pumping breaks I don't know.

What else is New York supposed to do? Omicron just blew through every safeguard NY implemented in a matter of days. The only thing left is closing down again, and I don’t see anyplace in America supporting a government forced shutdown again

It's been that way since day 1. No US politician has the gonads to put in restrictions again or limit capacity like we have done in Ontario. Too afraid of the mAh FrEeDoM crowd
Actually no, in the beginning we had a medical advisor with balls. She took soooo much crap including people literally protesting on her personal lawn at her house. She quit. It's been downhill since. In fact our governor removed safe guards in October for schools due to pressure from others. It's crap. But we are where we are, and no going back. Just praying for the best and going to do our part.

Vaccine passports and masks mandates in action.
How do you think it would have looked with even less vaccinated and less or no masking? Better, same, or worse?

Makes me wonder how long people will hold on to the idea that we are in control of this?

83% of adults in NYC are fully vaccinated, another 8% are partially vaccinated, 55% of kids over 5 have at least one dose, they have mask mandates, they have vaccine passports, they have social distancing… it’s time to accept it’s not something we can control, we can have an impact on it but the idea we can stop it seems crazy at this point.

Hold on folks, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride and as much as people don’t want to admit it we’re passengers.

Clearly with Omicron, it’s not enough. Or people aren’t really doing all those things. Or both.

I don’t think we’ll shutdown either. There’s better tools to use. We need to use then though, which has also been a problem.

You could have had mask mandates, vaccine passports, and capacity restrictions and would have been in the same place today with this new variant. Omicron didn’t pay any attention to those safeguards. Blew right by them.
