Very true. However, I suspect that once the experts' recommendations stop comporting with what Trump wants, he will stop listening to them. I am not trying to be political here, just assessing the facts of the situation as I see them right now.

The governors of many of our states, including mine, have already decided to go farther than what the federal government has done. It is my hope that Trump's instinct to move super-quickly to undo or restrictions gets blunted by the governors. Most states have already ordered that these restrictions last at least a week longer, if not several weeks longer, than the federal recommendations. I hope they aren't pushed into backing off because of Trump.

I agree with everything here. Hopefully Trump sees reason (Ha!) and doesn't back away from lifting the social distancing orders. Even if he did, I doubt he could force the government of states like California and New York to lift their orders. And even if, heaven forbid, that did happen, does he really the economy would simply bounce back in a matter of days or weeks?

As Dr Fauci has said recently..."the president has the awesome responsibility of considering every aspect of this. I just give public health advice completely clean, unconnected with anything else. He has to factor in other things..... What the president is trying to do is balance the public health issues with the fact this is having an enormous impact on the economy of the country which may actually, indirectly, cause an incredible amount of harm... even health wise."

If a health adviser isn't advocating for a complete lockdown, he or she isn't doing their job. If an economic adviser isn't advocating for opening every business ASAP, he or she isn't doing their job. So it rests with the President to find the right balance.

What I said was based off of what the Chinese found as reported here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/32074550 I have heard about the French, but haven't found any study that provide details on how many subjects or anything else.

It was 20 treated patients and 16 controls. Definitely not a large enough study but there seems to be enough result to at least give the treatment a glimmer of hope. A real clinical trial is beginning today in New York so we'll be able to know soon one way or another.

This is what I have been saying for days now. There are medical experts and economists and both have models and projections. All of the relevant information needs to be absorbed by the people in charge and they need to make a call. All of the information from all of the experts is incomplete and full of assumptions. It’s the job of a leader to make impossible decisions based on incomplete information.

They/He will hopefully find the right balance, which I think is key. The 15 day plan is only just over halfway through. So we still have some more to go with it...

Two reasons:
1. Our laws and constitution are very different than other countries and the federal government has much more limited authority.
2. Trump is already antsy with the measures currently being taken due to their effect on the stock market. He is signaling, pretty strongly, that he wants to go "back to normal" as soon as next week, regardless of the consequences for the virus.
1. You make new law. We have.

2. That is the stuff of nightmares. It’s no secret Trump isn’t happy. I won’t get political but if it did happen I dare say he’d make an enemy of the free world. And not so free.

Favipiravir seems like the most promising drug thus far, but it's a Japanese drug that's not approved by the FDA so it could be a while before it's in use here.

Based on use in China, though, it had a significant effect on mild and moderate cases. So if people could get it before their case becomes severe it would be highly beneficial.

We need a real clinical study. With those numbers I don’t know how they could even call it a study.
Our keg parties 40 years ago were bigger.

Setting a 15 day timetable is a good way to stay focused on meeting objectives during that 15 days. But the President intimated yesterday, and I would agree, it doesn't necessarily mean we go back to normal when the 15 days is over.

I didn't hear him say go back to normal right away. He said we need to deal with both crises, and we can deal with both at the same time...

True and its highly likely they will need to extend a little longer. If we can follow the models set out by other countries ahead of us on the curve we can get out of this sooner. Once the case total peaks we need to wait a little while to let the curve bottom out before re-opening everything. Jumping too soon could make the whole 15 days useless. We also need to be careful with international travel. Hong Kong is starting to see an uptick in cases brought in by foreign travelers. If, God willing, we see a decline in cases in the US we need to keep that number down. Things won’t go fully back to normal overnight. We need to be patient and ease into it.

If anything this shows that our workforce needs to be better setup to work and function remotely. Obviously there are services and areas that cannot, but I’m wondering if this will be the start of freeing up office space by making office workers almost all remote from here on.

The amount of real estate and money spent on having offices... when majority can just do their job from home. It makes no sense.

They also talked about how many states are at a different place on the timeline. Like Washington is about 2 weeks ahead of New York, so you have to deal with that...also talked a lot about dealing with hot spots and really looking at data as it pertains to where the virus is specifically spreading....
