Was it from blocking middle seats or from the fact that blocking middle seats results in far fewer people on the flight who may be infected with COVID? It just seems the seats are so close - even the seat across the aisle is less than what the CDC was calling an acceptable distance. I guess I should trust the studies that say airplanes are not a significant factor in spreading the virus because of the ventilation system, but I can't get past the fact that another person is sitting so close, whether in the middle seat, behind me or across the aisle.
For an upcoming flight I’m intentionally choosing a smaller plane that has 2-1 seating in 1st. I’m going to distance as much as I can!

And what is the excuse for other states and other countries who did not do it the Florida way? UK? France? Israel? Or CA, TX, NY? Which states have vaccine passports? Everyone opened up and removed restrictions within a month of each other from what I can tell. No state had a vaccination rate that was outstanding by any means. So is this a case of Florida being hit in the way NY was at the very beginning? Or was there really anything meaningful done in other states to stop delta in May/June? Because I really don't see it. I didn't see any state react quickly, or be proactive....and when they did react, it was to slap on a mask after spread already took hold.

To me, it seems less about what places did or didn't do...and more about delta being delta.
Come on Andy…

no one is saying Florida started the delta spike…but looking for “what if’s” to Take the sting off what’s happening now is beneath you…

did you read graphic DC put up? 17,000 HOSPITALIZATIONS…not cases…2100 new admits in a day.

hell…I think Florida health is kinda hoping you might mistake those numbers with the soft stats of testing and total admits last year…conveniently framed.

I didn’t miss “162% of the peak 7/23/2020!!!” That one “Sears” in the brain.

Florida is what it is…but Painting it as better managers or “smarter” is writing checks your body can’t cash, Maverick. I wouldn’t.

If common sense was common

Are these the airlines who took bailout cash upfront…in 4/20…laid off everyone and then cried for more money this spring when people
Wanted to fly???

…yeah…I weep not for them
It has nothing to do with weeping. If you keep all the costs the same but you take away 1/3 of the revenue you lose money and eventually run out of cash to pay your bills and pay your employees. It’s basic economics. The bailout cash you are complaining about is the exact thing that would be needed indefinitely to keep planes in the air.

Didn't set well with others, airlines took DC bailout money, padded profit margins to impress shareholders and Wall Street, senior execs rewarded themselves with hefty bonuses then furloughed / laid off some staff to get them off the payroll. Wasn't it hilarious back in the day when CEOs of airlines testified in DC to ask for bailout money to help their struggling businesses and each CEO flew to DC on their private jet?

May not be enough, even in First Class.

Sample size of one, but significant to me: full airplane flight in May out of Houston, Texas, window seat in First Class. Fully-vaxxed (Moderna) since early March. I'm wearing an American-made, advanced N95 (non-medical grade because no splash/spray layer) mask from KimTech, the R&D division of Kimberly-Clark, the maker of Kleenex. Know how to check fit and it was fitting well. Kept it on all the time except while eating. Woman in the row behind me coughing and sneezing, refusing to wear a mask even though flight attendants kept providing her with new ones and telling her to keep it on. She doesn't. Two days after landing, develop Covid-related perniosis (commonly called "Covid Toes" with painful swelling and discoloration), caused by an overproduction of Interferon-1 and other immune system responses. Confirmed by GP and dermatologist. Easy treatment with OTC hydrocortisone cream, but took almost 90 days to clear up completely. Prior to this flight, I believed in the aircraft ventilation theory protecting each row. Less sure now. Will fly again, but not until December. Until then, driving long distances.

The New COVID-Denier's Tactic: It's just a wave!!

Will the current wave eventually die down? Yes. It has to. Once the virus infects and hospitalizes and kills all the unvaccinated, it will have no one else to infect, and it will die out. Every wave will break and fall. It necessarily has to. Or as the cool kids like to point out: "It's plateauing!!"

But, there really shouldn't be a wave in the first place. Hospitals shouldn't be filling up. People shouldn't be dying. That's because we have a vaccine.

But the anti-vaxxers are putting all their eggs in the "it's just a wave" basket.

For, you see, if a wave will eventually break... then NO WORRIES!!...RIGHT??!!?! Just keep looking for the downward slope that will eventually come, and stop looking at the upward slope representing fellow human beings suffering and dying!!!

And if we just look at the downward slope that's plateauing... oh no, wait, not plateauing yet, but by looking at other Delta waves, we can see this wave will break (which, of course, all waves will break), but for now, it's only plateauing, oh, no, wait, it's climbing again, especially in the under-vaccinated counties, but, just you wait, it'll break!! Then we can look at the downward slope and say, "It's all good now. We really don't need vaccines, and certainly don't need to mandated them!!"

This will all work out in the end.

In a lot of needless suffering and death.

But the wave will have broken!!!

That’s not true! If everyone above 12 were vaccinated this virus would slow way down. Way. Way. Down.
50.5% in the state…just crept over…2 points in 2 months

in a place filling up gods waiting room and full of covidiots who spent all of last year saying “it’s only dangerous to the elderly….just lock them up”

50.5 frikkin percent after 8 months

Is the federal transportation will really lift mask mandate for good by January 18th 2022. Next year will be MUCH better as COVID-19 cases will be low enough when many people are vaccinated enough, masked up, and social distancing all states including Christmas and Thanksgiving. @Sirwalterraleigh @GoofGoof @helenabear
Is January 2022 is the time that mask mandate will be gone for good for trains, buses and planes when COVID 19 cases are low enough as the virus will be slow down due more people including kids under 5-11 and 12-18 will be vaccinated because this Christmas and Thanksgiving this year will be nice for travelers masked up for traveling like trains, buses and planes.

I agree with you in spirit…just a couple of minor details - however…
Well, do you want to inconvenience 100% of the people made up of 70% vaccinated and 30% unvaccinated.

Or just inconvenience 30% of the people, the ones who are unvaccinated, by mandating they get vaccinated?

If the government is going to throw its weight around... let it land on the holdouts.

Or, how about this compromise: Only the unvaccinated have to self-isolate?

I know “close Disney” scares everyone and we all need a hug around here…

…but the details I was thinking of were:
A. There’s really no way to require full vaccinations…loopholes will lead to spread and mutation.
B. Wdw is built to attract kids…like candy on the playground. So just unfortunate there.

A vaccine is irrelevant if the numbers are as high as they are in Florida.
How can someone who asks such naive questions of the sort "what good is vaccinating everyone" have such sure knowledge that the numbers in Florida wouldn't budge if everyone got vaccinated?

Sorry, but I'm not buying epidemiology assertions from someone who asks such things.

Florida is a strange animal…they don’t care enough about “public good” so that we can have unrestricted access to our DVC…

21,000,000 people and 20,975,000 of them aren’t lining up for the parade right now

Another record-breaking day here in FL. Who here was saying that we’ve peaked???

33,692 total for the weekend. Down 1,185 cases or approximately 3.397% from last weekend.

Monday was at 21,669.

To rehash from last week but with modern numbers:

2,479,975 Cases to 2,958,566 cases = 478,591 New Cases in 24 Days (July 23rd, 2021 to August 16th, 2021).

We are expected to break 3 Million when Wednesdays case numbers go up, and half a million cases in less than 4 weeks tomorrow.

I think our best hope is that the current delta quagmire breaks down a lot of the resistance to vaccines and we get most everyone covered. That give more times for the medicine to advance and to get ahold of the spike enough and we may not see another big rise Again

hopefully
