Canada has their own vaccine hold outs. Luckily for them, the percentage seems to be smaller than that of the US. At least according to the vaccination rates. And after a slow start, no fault to the people, I applaud their vaccine efforts.

We do, but polling suggested it was 6% are an absolute no and 14% were waiting. Obviously we've managed to drop that to 6%/12% since.

It's a tiny minority though that are absolutely against it, I think there is simply too much peer pressure to allow the minority to really take sway of the greater populace here. The US seems to really normalize that avoiding the vaccine is a viable or smart choice.

As we know it's impossible to get 80%+ of Americans to agree on something let alone go out of their way to Do something that almost everyone does not find pleasant.

A co-worker of mine is holding out on getting the vax, because he is looking to have children.

He.

When there is absolutely no fertility concerns for females, and certainly none for males.

This study actually found measurable increase in sperm count post vaccination.

Albeit small , but randomized trial shows that a third moderna shot in transplant recipients provides adequate neutralizing antibodies ( two shots do not provide enough neutralizing antibodies) .

Study:

Separate letter:
One interesting issue with non-clinical studies is that the reference level of neutralizing antibodies is based on the amount needed as shown in studies of primates to neutralize the original wild SARS-CoV-2, not delta. I expect they will do a new primate study someday against delta to give a new reference point for future studies. But for now they used USA-WA1-2020 ( original wild)

I convinced my 45 year old brother to get the vaccine the other night. He previously had covid (flu like symptoms and lasted a week) so was big on the "I don't need to get it because I have anti-bodies" train. We had a reasonable and educating conversation and explained the statistics are showing the vaccines work and it's ultimately not worth the risk of getting sick again.

Told him my main reason of getting the vaccine was because I wanted to do my part to get back to normal. I'm tired of the masks, tired of the social distancing/not being able to see people I care about on a regular basis, tired of what kids are having to go through these days, etc. And told him that if me getting the shot meant we were that much closer or ending all of this, then I'd do it every day of the week and not think twice about it. When he heard that, he was sold and sure enough he went and got his first shot the next day.

We also both live in South Florida and told him the state is absolutely on fire with Covid right now and we haven't reached our peak. Amazing what an adult conversation can accomplish!

It’s important to note that America’s problem is not primarily long-seated differences between states or some national cantankerousness with a long tradition. In 2001 about 5% of Americans had vaccine doubts. By 2015 that was about 12%. In those days, the most prominent anti-Vaxxer was a widely mocked former Playboy model.

The current situation is not a problem with long roots. Something changed dramatically in the last few years, leaving us uniquely unable to deal with the pandemic. We need to be very clear on that point.

What changed since then? The explosion in Internet access as well as social media. And dont forget we had for quite awhile the 9/11 doubters trying to prove conspiracies with laughable 'evidence'.

Just wear the damn mask for awhile until things are under control. I see less heated arguments during tax fights.
