So all legal restrictikns lifted in the uk - will let you all know if we are all still standing in a few weeks…
Why frame it in these derisive and hyperbolic terms? Hundreds of experts—people far more knowledgeable about this stuff than either you or me—have voiced reasonable and legitimate concerns. Those of us who are worried don’t deserve mockery.

Sorry to laugh. Seeing cases rise and nobody doing anything about it is not even sad anymore.

They should but they probably won't. It's why I think the whole thing is funny now.

Even if they wanted to, it would be very difficult to do, thus the reason for bringing back mitigations if cases counts start getting to high.

The Los Angeles County sheriff has announced his department won’t enforce the county Department of Public Health’s reinstated indoor mask mandate as COVID-19 cases soar in the area, claiming it’s “not backed by science.”

Sheriff Alex Villanueva said in a statement Friday that he “will not expend our limited resources” to enforce the new order.

“Forcing the vaccinated and those who already contracted COVID-19 to wear masks indoors is not backed by science and contradicts the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines,” he added.

Yup giant mess here we come.
He is elected so no county governance to answer to. Pros and cons of that setup

So, will they go after people who are unvaccinated, not previously infected and aren't wearing masks?
I can’t speak for them, but in Chicago the police never got into mask enforcement. None of the law enforcement agencies were too thrilled about being called upon to use the criminal laws to address a public health crisis.

Some of the regulatory agencies did monitor restaurants and bars the best they could, but it wasn’t nearly enough so most places slipped through the cracks.

The fact is that most people, vaccinated or not, will obey a sign on a door stating the mask policy. (Although this may no longer be true if vaccinated people believe the CDC and reject the idea that they are spreading the virus.) The police just don’t have the resources or will to go after citizens for not wearing masks.

It was a rhetorical question. :)

The same could be said for MA, but we had pretty decent compliance that I saw (although I'm not sure about bars, restaurants, etc. as we've been avoiding those since the beginning).

When it comes to a public health crisis, I would hope we could all agree that elected officials’
primary reaponsibility should be listening to public health officials in how to respond.
The elected officials should use what the public health officials say as one factor in how they respond. The only concern that a public health official has is to determine the ideal way to stop the public health threat. They do not care about the economy or any other factors. The job of the elected official is to take all variables into account and respond in the way that they deem to be the best balance.

In WDW terms, all an imagineer cares about is designing the best attraction. The executives must take into account the opinions of accounting, operations, etc. in order to decide what form a new attraction should take and what the budget should be.

My point was obviously that the experts should be leading the conversation when it comes to a public health crisis, not the loudest voices of individual constituents.

I agree. Our CDC director has been very vocal about this becoming a pandemic of the unvaccinated and stating that local governments in areas with low vaccination rates may have to recommend more precautions than other areas.

I’ve heard many vaccinated people say things as extreme as :

“I’m not wearing a mask anymore what are they going to do call the police?”

With the previous mandates there was a group of people very unhappy with them but they where all more of the anti vax type.

Now we are going to have the same old anti vax crowd plus a large percentage of the vaccine crowd that is going to go nuts if mandates come back.

Let’s be conservative and say it’s only 30% of the vaccinated that is very upset to the point of active protest.

You talking around an additional 50 million Americans that are suddenly and strangely aligned with team anti vax.

That gives you a close to what I would consider overwhelming majority of Americans that are going to be up in arms.

You can say who cares what people think we have to do what’s right.

Well I’ll tell you who cares what people think. The ones making the rules that we get to vote in or out.

They really put themselves in a terrible terrible position by dropping the mandates before the vaccine goal was hit.

No
It baffles and dismays some of us Brits too.
It certainly does. I'm glad to see that most (if not all) of our supermarkets have said they'll ask customers and staff to continue wearing masks despite the law relaxations, and a lot of businesses have followed suit.

The massive coffee chain that is Costa Coffee have however said they're not going to ask anyone to mask, which I'm quite happy to see hasn't gone down too well.

I've said it before in this thread but I'll keep wearing my mask for a while yet - it's two weeks until I can get my second jab but longer for all of those younger than myself, so I can see me keeping mine on well into September.

Well well you totally got me wrong! I was stating a fact and actually put the rest of it because I feel a little nervous and don’t know how it’s going to go - ie It was a genuine concern - perhaps don’t assume you know me or my intention

I’ll admit it was rather odd from an American point of view that all we keep hearing about through the US media is how bad Delta is in the UK, yet we also see 60k fans at Wembley for the Euros and 30k fans each day at The Open.
Yep I’m a little nervous about jt all. I spent my weekend in london where life was buzzing and whilst good to see I myself kept my distance a little. I also surprised myself by being a little uncomfortable when people were asking me to sit close to me on the train

however I am slightly different to some more vocal people on here about the situation by realising it is now or never in terms of this year abd those who are calling on delays don’t seem to think about what they are asking for. For example, our restrictions before today were not holding delta so to get cases down we would need to go back into full lockdown - our economy and society can’t afford that imo so I genuinely do realise that although I’m nervous and it’s a gamble that if we are ever going to do it it’s now

Fair enough. Please accept my apologies.
Cheers and apologies for perhaps seeming a bit off the cuff. I surprised myself how i felt about it all last night - I thought I’d feel utter relief (for example wearing a mask in london at the weekend was horrific I felt like I couldn’t breathe on the transport network) but I didn’t - the nightclub scenes concerned me and selfishly I want to go on holiday, I want to make memories with my family by coming back to Wdw - thars not gonna happen if things spiral even more out of control - I’m hoping that end of euros last week (which obviously drove the spike upwards last week) plus school holidays will counter a lot of it
