Interesting dichotomy. Reports that Universal Orlando is removing their 6’ social distancing markers.
Meanwhile, Disney is now adding 6’ markers to the FOTLK queue.

Whether right or wrong, WDW seems intent on slow-walking the return to normalcy, slower than anyplace else. As of now, WDW restaurants are operating at a lower capacity than New York City restaurants (now going to 75%).
I think if Uni removes restrictions on certain things that is going to be pressure for Disney to do the same

I wouldn’t read too much into that. It’s bureaucracy at its best. If a decision is being made to reduce distancing it would be kept to the highest level of management. The people putting the queue stickers on the ground wouldn‘t know. If they make a change they just update that with any other attraction the same way they do the rest. Inefficient, yes...but par for the course in a large bureaucratic organization.

I read it simply as: As of now, WDW has no policy or plan to reduce social distancing.

Of course, that -could- change overnight. But it’s not like they’ve be in the dark. Mayor Demings consulted with the theme parks before his announced social distancing reduction. And even if they didn’t, they knew it would be coming eventually and could have had a plan ready to go. (And no, that wouldn’t be a secret plan known only to the most senior leadership. As the plan would require working with mid level operational management).

For whatever reason, WDW seems determined to move slower than anybody else. They announced Ratatouille for October, while Uni is opening Velociraptor in June. Uni brought back night entertainment months ago, not on the immediate horizon for WDW. Uni announced they are going ahead with their Halloween special events, silence from WDW.

Yes, things will eventually change at WDW. And perhaps as they see the rules relaxed EVERYWHERE else, they might speed up their change. But as of now, they seem to be living by Chapek’s statement of “social distancing and masks until the end of the year.”

I think it is the same rule again for the 6', not surprising here that they continue to add some markers at some place. If tomorrow a new meeting decide to follow CDC, and to follow Universal, theses new 6' markers on the floor will quickly be removed :)
As long as new directives have been voted/decided, the 6' rule prevails.
Don't think it's relative to a "slow-walking to normalcy" decision from Disney

I’m sure it’s mostly trying to set a good example. The CDC still reccomends masks in most settings the President will publically appear in.
While I understand that, I feel that it sets an example of a lack of confidence in the vaccines.
Not on purpose, but I believe it would be more effective to show these vaccinated people unmasked and around each other.

They have literally torn out the markers throughout both parks and replaced them with small pieces of tape.
Yeah finally found some pics on Twitter. Does look a bit odd to see the cleaner sidewalk where the old markings were. I thought it was a decorative tile for a second lol
This is the pic of Velocicoaster queue that I didn't see any markers in, people were doing their own thing with spacing pretty well.

Who is sleeping on the job and didn’t post this?

Due to COVID-19 wide-spread vaccine availability, fully vaccinated individuals should no longer be advised to wear face coverings or avoid social and recreational gatherings except in limited circumstances.
Dr. Scott Rivkees

Looks like instant gratification as an incentive to vaccinate will be tested in FL. Assuming people are honest about it, since there’s no checking.

At least this reads like it’s not just when only vaccinated people are around, but everywhere.

I was out doing some costume stuff for a play and we were talking about that. Big carrot there if I've ever seen one!

West coast FL, man and son came into fresh greek today with a very clear "no mask, no service" sign on the door. Went to the counter and were asked if they had a mask, when the answer was "the government said they are not required" the reply was "it is company policy" but you can order online and we will bring it out to you.
Much grumbling heard and after looking around at the others in the place chose to walk out. Son was ~8 - 9 years old.
First incident I have witnessed but I don't go out much to see it.

Glad they decided to just leave instead of causing a problem...but they should have seen the sign and walked away or masked up.

oh...it looks like Disney are coming to the "you are responsible" strategy. It seems they absolve themselves of any responsibility ...You are infected ? ok, not our fault, we said only to vaccinated people the can remove their mask.

No one says anything around here (Indiana). Walmart, gas stations, they all still have signs, not even the employees follow them a portion of the time or say much.

And already we see the problem with the new “policy.”
Fla effectively discouraging vaccinated people from wearing masks. But doesn’t allow anyone to check vaccination status.
So even though businesses are allowed to require masks, you have lots of people — whether vaccinated or not — who will feel entitled to go maskless.

There will be immense “peer pressure” on smaller businesses to eliminate mask requirements in Florida.

He thought about it for a few seconds, I like to think having his son with him helped the decision.

Most have "mask required" here but this is the first I noticed with "no mask, no service" on it. Included proper wearing instructions.

I'm pretty sure his kid was not vaccinated....

I am not currently eating out at all right now so you're better than me. I have invisalign and it's not fun to eat out with it, so I'm waiting until June to be free. I know private and company policy will dictate. Obviously since I'm not out to eat (only pick up) and vaccinated still have to mask I wouldn't see much anyway.

I was at a privately run costume shop. I know the owner is fully vaccinated since they work with schools, so when it's just us we're out. We chatted about differences with Ohio and Florida (owner just came back) and it has me looking forward to our trip next month. Though the FDA needs to hurry up with vaccines for 12-15 year olds already

Not anti mask, but if you are fully vaccinated we should start seeing some perks or those on the edge won't care to get vaccinated.

I wonder if anybody has attempted to determine the R naught of SARS-CoV-2 if there was no mitigation at all. Isn't that needed in order to calculate what percent of the population needs to be immune to reach a lasting herd immunity without mitigation?
That’s why it will take time to determine. Right now Israel has some restrictions left so not herd immunity without any mitigation. I think what you do is keep dialing it back and see what the result is. It could turn out that herd immunity is already reached without any mitigation and with vaccination alone or it could be only due to the combo. That’s why the “plan” of reaching herd immunity before dialing back mitigation efforts is so flawed. You can and should start dialing things back before formally reaching herd immunity and monitor the impact.

I thought they had found out that asymptomatic people don’t spread the virus? Was there not a study about that? If that is true, why would vaccinated people need to wear masks around the unvaccinated? If not then it makes sense to keep masks on for crowded and indoors Still.
From the beginning there has been debate about whether or not there is actual asymptomatoc spread or it is actually presymptomatic or low symptomatic. From a scientific standpoint of being rigorous, thorough and accurate it is important. From a public health policy perspective it is less important because either way people do not feel sick or recognize that they are sick so they are engaging in activities and spreading the virus.
Both Wawa and Publix have removed their markers as of today
My local Publix has refreshed their graphics a couple of times in the past year. They’d be gone one day and back on my next visit.

Two different stores so I think it is company wide.
