The problem with this analysis is that it glosses over the fact that vaccinated transmission is extremely rare. It makes no case why vaccinated individuals should be subject to any restrictions or precautions whatsoever.

That is problematic when states and counties are basing re-opening on plans on local vaccination rates.
In FL if you are vaccinated in a County other than where you live, the data is reported based on residence. If you get vaccinated in another State it won't get reported.

It is possibly why the goals are lower than polls suggest would be the percentage taking the vaccine. Broward is using 65% of adults and I think Orange is 60%. They likely assume that a higher percentage will be vaccinated than is reported.

And that's the biggest hurdle to get past when it comes to vaccine hesitancy. "Get Vaxxed! Nothing changes though, silly goose."

Because we're not finished vaccinating everyone.

Those vaccinated are no longer recommended to remain masked when they're with other vaccinated people. In many places, they're no longer required to wear masks outside. And, of course, in certain states the mask mandate disappeared a long time ago.

I just attended last night a meeting with 13 people and we were all around one table unmasked because we were all vaccinated.

But at our worship services, we're still masked because there are people there unvaccinated.

Problem is vaccines are stalling in so many states. We need carrots dangling fast.

Masks outside if distanced has never been a thing here. More places never adopted that than did.

or...since there are few experts and many blowhards...just do it and not be concerned with analyzing it?

Seriously. Getting vaccinated ought to be the most anti-mask thing you can do, but nobody is making that case.

That is a flaw...but the resistance has nothing to do with pharma...not one bit. It’s angry losers who have been had.

A little data to hammer home just how effective the vaccines are. In looking at the CDC breakthrough case data as of 4/20. There were over 87 million fully vaccinated individuals. Of those, 331 had been hospitalized due to COVID and 77 had died due to COVID.

That means that 0.00038% (roughly 1 in 250,000) fully vaccinated people have ended up hospitalized due to COVID and 0.00009% (roughly 1 in 1.1 million) fully vaccinated have died due to COVID. This data represents totals over weeks or months AND is likely skewed towards the older population because more of them were vaccinated sooner.

The data shows that if you get vaccinated, your risk from COVID is irrelevant in the scheme of risks you encounter every day normally.

My question for @MisterPenguin is why the people at the worship service haven't been vaccinated yet? Is it still difficult to get a shot in your area?

@ImperfectPixie what we need is videos from people who refuse to be vaccinated and end up in the hospital wishing they had gotten the vaccine and begging others to do so. As can be seen in the data in this post, the one thing that is proven beyond any doubt to keep you from being hospitalized or dying due to COVID is to get vaccinated.

I would think that, "When X% of eligible people get vaccinated, we move to the next phase of reopening," would be a good motivation - but some people are so dug in that all they do is view that as forcing people to do something dangerous in order to stop doing something they shouldn't have to do in the first place.

The Mayor of Orange County laid it out. 70% get vaxxed and all restrictions are dropped, less than 70% and restrictions continue. It doesn’t get more clear than that. Are people really so dumb that they don’t realize that the fastest way to end restrictions is for everyone to get vaccinated? I really don’t think so. I think most of the people resisting realize this, but they have fought against restrictions for over a year that they don’t want to see them end that way. Getting the vaccine would be giving in and admitting that Covid was a serious problem. They want to see the restrictions end with the government giving up and removing them despite not reaching that goal so they can celebrate being “right” on Facebook. Sad that so many people would be willing to delay a return to normal just to save face. My simple answer is just go and get vaccinated and don’t tell anyone. This way you can help us all get back to normal faster, protect yourself and your family and at the same time save face and continue your online image of being anti-vaccination and a Covid denier. Problem solved

Sadly, we also need a way to convince the people who have fallen the furthest down the rabbit hole that these videos aren't fake.

Those are really good numbers. Did the source say whether any of those cases had been prior to reaching the two-week mark of full protection?

About your last paragraph...unfortunately, I think you're right. I was thinking about what kind of things they could do marketing-wise to help spur things along on the vaccination front, but they're already doing so much - I must have gotten at least 2 dozen e-mails in the last two weeks from hospitals and doctors we've used over the years. I'm not sure what else they can do other than inundate television and radio with ads.

Seriously, a lot of states have been saying it’s ok to be outside without masks for a while, even without a vaccine.

As already reported by WDWMagic, democratically run Orange County has announced specific targets to return to normal.

The CDC guidance is nothing more than a big yawn to most Americans.

You can throw a fit all you want about what a lot of government agencies have done. Go ahead and scream that Orange County is being irresponsible.

It still doesn’t address the reality of what already has been happening for many months.

President Biden virtue signaling by wearing a mask when he doesn’t need to only appeals to those who already back him.

There’s a good 20-30% of the population that’s only vaccine hesitant, not anti vaccine. Let’s start taking steps to win them over.
