Don't walmart the tests, low price does not mean good or reliable
Do you not have access to free rapid testing? In the uk we can go to any pharmacy at any time and pick up 7 tests free and do twice weekly testing at home just to see if we are positive or not - don’t need a reason to use them

Lololol. No. We don’t have that. Another example of how we have flubbed things in the states. Getting a test (at least where I live) is still incredibly inconvenient. We have to go to a doctor or a clinic and tests can take several
Days. They can often come back within 24 hours but that isn’t to be assumed. We can’t isolate cases because we can’t test adequately. It’s truly still a mess despite our aggressive vaccination (which is also going to fall short in a special American mediocrity)

The test is free, but just received a bill from the Dr office for the visit itself $84 after insurance. Doesn't exactly inspire ppl to get tested. Some offices charge an additional $25 PPE fee for the PPE they use.

I just got my daughter a rapid covid test this week. It was pretty convenient - there were several CVS sites with same day availability (Kroger had the following day). And it was free with insurance.

So ...

What is everyone seeing for vaccine appointment availability in your area?

In my location, the local pharmacies and grocery stores are showing availability 4 days from today.

The large local government run facilities are showing next day availability.
Just checked out of curiosity. Out of 30 state-run vaccine centers, 29 have appt. availability. Checked my "local" ones (SUNY Old Westbury, Jones Beach, Aqueduct) and ALL have appt. for today or tomorrow, plus many, many more for the days after- way into May.
Stopped at my local family-run pharmacy yesterday and they have plenty of Moderna to give out, but very few coming in for them.

Wow yeah now that doesn’t inspire people to test that’s for sure. I mean there is an argument over here that we are testing too much - we are averaging over a million a day right now mainly due to mass school testing - and there are calls to reduce it to more targeted testing, but it is good to know that I can test at any time k want especially if I’m visiting more vulnerable family members.

Around here, the rapid tests are only used for hospitalized patients. Our hospital allows patients to call to request a test, free of charge without a doctor's office visit. The turn-around time is about 24 hours.

I haven't checked recently, but as of a few weeks ago when vaccination opened to everyone in my state, the earliest appointment my wife could get was 28 April... so, she's still waiting.

In NY all testing is covered, no matter how many times go you in. Plenty of places to get rapid tests - 15 min. results while you wait. Faster than my local fast food drive-thru lines have been - lol!

Getting shot 2 on Monday.

I’m stocked up on my hard seltzers.
West coast of FL are walkup and same day appts. get your shots people!
It’s much more open here in the past week or so. You can get an appointment at most pharmacies and in some cases can even pick a time. I’d say for CVS and Rite Aid about 50/50 on locations having open appointments in the next week which is way better than it was when I booked mine. No excuses now for people to not go. It’s free, it’s easy to get an appointment and it’s perfectly safe. Everyone do your part...any we all get a return to normal this Summer 😎
Ohio State Fairgrounds open to walk ins 6 days a week 12-3. My pediatrician has weekly clinics. Chain pharmacies are hit or miss but depending I could schedule tomorrow. It's been a couple weeks since I helped anyone with finding a vaccine.
I haven't checked anything myself because I've already gotten both my shots, but according to the Reddit group for my area, the Denver metro area is still tight as far as grocery store pharmacies. Three of the mass vax sites just started allowing walkups this past week. I signed up for one of those "extra dose" email lists early on, and got my first text about availability in my area, today. Rural, I think things are pretty open though now.

Thanks for the replies. It sounds like many are seeing what I am seeing.

I had to scramble 4 weeks ago to get my first dose. Found a county-run temporary location about 40 minutes away and had to wait in line another 45 minutes to get my shot.

When I returned 3 weeks later, I walked right in. The parking lot was full but I obviously was at the tail end of a lunchtime rush (I arrived at 2 PM). When I left at 2:30, there was almost no one in line, and most vaccinators (if that's the right word!) were sitting there bored, waiting for the next person. It probably got more crowded in the evening, but there definitely was a mid-afternoon lull.

I looked at my state's metrics. We were averaging about 100,000 doses per day. This has dropped to 85,000.

It appears that in my state, those who really wanted the vaccine have already received their first dose. We now are shifting over to those who are waiting until it is convenient.

After that, it becomes those who need to be coaxed.

I'm concerned this is going to drag out a lot longer than it needs to. :(

Yes
If vaccine numbers goes a flatline. There could be a massive big surge or wave this summer like India and Brazil because anti-vaxxs won't give up for their lesson and we will never go back to normal till years now...😭😭😭😭😢 Darn you stupid anti vaxxs get YOUR VACCINES TO GET BACK TO NORMAL BY JULY OR LATE SUMMER/FALL!!!:mad::mad::mad:

I bet if all the posters in this thread actually got together at Walt Disney World in real life, we'd not only like each other, but have a good time. Just a random thought. :)

I've told this story before, but there was someone on this site that I had a very adversarial relationship with a few years ago, then I discovered he was a co-worker, although neither of us knew this. We are now friends and work very well together in the office.

I'm worried the new variants will never be defeated because vaccines will never stop them, we will may go back to normal for years, as we will have to wear masks and social distancing forever I guess. Is this really gonna happen or not. Is masks and social distancing will be gone for good soon? Is we will getting a booster to stop variants by late this year or next year.
