Indeed.

And yes, TrainChasers, it is the least of their worries but it's very sad nonetheless for this moment in their lives - as their lives revolve around school right now. Remember when you were that age. ;)

I’m the wrong person to ask that question. I graduated early and was already working 2 jobs, both of them dream jobs, what would have been my senior year.

But I wasn’t meaning that in a snippy way.... there will be no careers for them when they graduate. They won’t be able move where they want to live or study where they want to study. Maybe in a year or 2 the economy will improve but this is going to be rough.

They'll have to close the beaches to get these morons to listen.
I wouldn't call them morons...they're just young and their brains aren't able to grasp the long-term consequences yet.
The moron is the governor for refusing to close the beaches. If there’s one thing we have learned from this is people can’t help themselves. If the government doesn’t force the issue people aren’t going to do it on their own. Social media doesn’t help either. People can easily find like-minded fools in their echo chamber telling them they are doing nothing wrong and likely even encouraging the behavior.

No reasonably intelligent human being can look at this and think...“that’s a good idea”

Look, there are always jobs...just not the work or pay people want to accept.

As of now, classes are cancelled in FL until April 15th, then on-line learning will start.
No, he just said that classes will not resume and that parents have the choice for their child to graduate or repeat the grade. Are you trying to make some other point?

I really think it will be for Mass. As I think of the timing of it here in SoCal, we lost all bath tissue and paper towels around the first of the month. Last weekend (March 7th) the pasta and pasta sauce was gone at my supermarkets and Trader Joe's, but it was about March 10th that things tipped over the edge into insanity in SoCal. By Thursday last week is when there was no meat or any dairy products, all canned goods were gone, all frozen foods gone, and most produce gone.

It remained that way for about three days, even though the stores were restocking through the day and fully restocking overnight. Yesterday it was a noticeable shift into less panic, and today it seemed practically normal.

I really think it just took about a full week of panic for everyone to fill up their pantries and spare closet with food of all kinds. There are probably people looking at all that stuff now thinking "What am I gonna do with all this stuff?!?"

Meanwhile, American factories are still pumping out millions of tons of food per day, the chickens are still laying millions of eggs a day, the cows are still giving ten million gallons of milk a day, and the Charmin factory is working all three shifts while Mr. Whipple stands on a balcony above the production line yelling "Go faster!"

r
just a note on to production, to machines run at around 60mph.

I gotta say when I was stocking up at the grocery store back in late Jan, early Feb, I had this nagging thought that I was overreacting, but now here we are with most of the entire consumer economy shut down. As much as China spooked me, I was still skeptical we would reach this point. Surreal is an understatement.

Just like flees on rats in sailing ships spread the Black plague throughout Europe from Asia thees college geniuses will spread the corona virus throughout the USA

Where are you getting this info? My friends are saying that schools were announced closed thru April 15th... as of now.. may remain closed but that decision has not been made. As of this moment it is 4/15 return. Do you have a different email or inside info?

My 401k would be healthy right now if I even considered the possibility this would happen :(

Florida K-12 students will stay off school campuses until at least April 15 because of the coronavirus pandemic, but they will begin some type of online or remote instruction on March 30, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Tuesday afternoon.

DeSantis said he and Florida Department of Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran were waiving state testing requirements for the school year and the requirements that students must take the test to graduate or advance to the next grade.

"Parents may at their discretion choose to keep their child in the same grade for the 2021 school year," DeSantis said.

Well my job of 21 years got offshored last year and I've been out of work for 9 months. And had a great interview 2 weeks ago and basically had a job offer in hand right before things went sideways and they have frozen hiring for now. Whenever things get back to "normal" I should still have the job but who knows at this point. At the very least I'm glad I rolled my 401k into a money market a few months ago.

He absolutely should have. The closure of WDW at the very least should have led to him closing down anywhere people gather in large numbers, and I'd be curious to know if he knew in advance that WDW was going to announce closure.
These aren't 9 year old. We have to get out of the habit of excusing people cause they are 16, 19, 25, 30, 35, 45, 55, 65, 75. Oh, their just young, here's a mentos.
I'm not excusing them by any means. Young people are hard-headed and generally lack ability in good decision-making. It's a fact. Unfortunately, social media is enabling them to create an echo chamber in which they only hear like-minded opinions, and are able to scoff at those with more wisdom. I keep sharing a video from residents who are part of the Italy quarantine who sent a message to their "selves" of 10 days ago in the hopes that more young people will view it - there are quite a few young people in the video who wished everyone had taken it more seriously in the beginning.

Exactly. So no new announcement has been made.
