DIsney. Do the right thing and close for a month. Pay all your cast members. And see where we are in a month.
Are you going to help fund this? They did this once before, remember? Things didn't get better, a month turned into four, and the economic damage to the company (and Central Florida area) could take a decade to heal.

Things aren't going to be better in a month. If they close because of the numbers they'll be closed through April or May at best. With California closed for a year now, the company literally can not afford to do this dream scenario many of you want. They need to stay open and bring in a bit of revenue to survive. They can close. But the layoffs and fallout from a second closure would be catastrophic. I don't know how anyone can think they can just have the ability close for "x" amount of time (or indefinitely) and pay everyone when regular cash flow has been gone now for nearly a year.

True, they have you sign a waiver. Imagine if Disney said "here sign this relieving us from any responsibility if something goes wrong"? Bad PR right there
Use usually sign a waiver for any type of injection or surgery. At most medical places you have to sign a waiver to get asprin. It's a result of our sue-happy culture.

The one guy who died on the flight home, outside of him...who knows. I assume that’s the point though.
Yeah, that was the point I was trying to make. I just don’t understand why people continue to insist that WDW is “better at keeping outbreaks at bay” or “the safest place you could visit” when we literally have no idea how many people have been exposed at WDW.

Assuming they get their second dose, having a percentage get it late could potentially lower the effectiveness in the real world outside of tight study protocols. All the more reason to get to as many people as possible as soon as possible.
From the report:
“Overdue: describes those who have received their first dose and have passed the recommended timeframe to receive their second dose.”

Also, the Osceola Dept of Health has updated their website to say the following, which is causing some concern from those who were recently there to receive their first shot: (from the FAQ page):
I have already received my first vaccination. When will I receive my second?
At this time, we are not scheduling second vaccination appointments. We will follow up with people who have received vaccinations regarding their second dose.

I know you are eager and anxious for WDW to close because #omglockdowns. What do you want them to rethink? Their multi step, carefully created and executed plan that is working better for crowd control and keeping outbreaks at bay than pretty much anything else?
That’s not what he said at all. What is it with conservatives and their projecting lately?!

Lockdown started on Dec 26th. At least part of the exponential increases were because of people mixing over Christmas and the knock-on effects.

Don’t get me wrong, the situation is dire. We’re in a worse position now than we were ever in the first wave. More cases, more deaths. The figures in the first wave were swelled by the outbreaks in care homes; this time it’s everywhere.

This is an excerpt from a BBC article:
“There are more people of all ages in hospital with Covid now than in the first wave last spring - that includes the young and old.
Infections have been highest in teenagers, students and people in their 20s and 30s in recent months. A small percentage of people from these age groups inevitably end up in hospital needing treatment.
But the overall pattern of those at risk of becoming seriously ill or dying has not changed significantly.
The older someone is, the greater their risk from Covid-19 - particularly over the age of 65.
For people under 40 who are infected, their risk of death is 0.1%. This rises to more than 5% for people over 80, according to Imperial College London research on the first wave.”

But the next week will be critical. That’s when we’ll see if lockdown is working. Of course, lockdown isn’t the full lockdown we had the first time. Yet.

This concerns me. I am so glad they did not do this where my MIL got her shot (different county in FL)

Just a reminder for those of you late to the conversation - posts debating the old argument "this is no worse than the flu/yes it is" or " people die all the time of other things" will be deleted. This warning was issued months ago, but many of you were not participating then.

AFAIK, in talking to people who have already gotten their first dose (lucky them - I still can't get an appointment) you have an appointment for your second dose before you leave the facility - at the same time, ie, if you got your first dose at 2:15PM you will get your second one 21 days later at 2:15PM.

Two first come, first served facilities, opened 8 hrs/day 6 days a week-or until 500 doses are given- are opening Monday, but are based on your birth month - Monday for Jan/Feb, Tuesday for Mar/Apr, and son on. Photo ID is required with DOB is required. It's for anyone over 65, or any healthcare workers of any age who must also present their work ID. This is in Duval County/Jacksonville.

Yup, that's how my hospital has done it. When vaccination moves to our outpatient clinics for the general public, the plan is to book both appointments at once, just to maximize the chances of compliance.
