People believe what they want to believe. Go back in this thread and you will see the theory being pushed over the summer was that there would be no second wave because once an area is hit hard then the virus fizzles out. A few people even tried to claim we hit herd immunity in NYC and the Northeast and that’s why cases were down over the summer. Mostly this was just wishful thinking and a desire to discredit Covid restrictions.
Just to add to that. What also is not helping is the amount of conspiracy theorists out there that keep spewing their rehtoric that this was all a plan and they are coming to take control of us.
I'm still hung on why people find this so hard. Outside of not traveling much this year I've done everything I have did before. Just now I have to sometimes wait to get into a store and wear a mask. I still go out to eat a couple of times a month and visit my family like I always have. The only other big change is no large family gatherings. We have kept it small.I’ll edit this for you:

Shhh, be quiet and I'll let you in on the Big Government Secret (having been a government employee for the first two decades of my adult life)... if the Federal Government actually could act as a unified mind, here's what it really wants... it wants tax revenue and it wants to make sure the rules it sets are followed. But mostly, its wants tax revenue. Most bureaucrats probably couldn't give less of a flip what most people do beyond that. This whole COVID thing kind of gets in the way of that tax revenue goal.
I admit, back in February and as late as March, I was one of them. The counter-evidence, though, soon became too overwhelming to ignore.
Think my major annoyance is we haven't gotten to visit family since March because too many are high risk. Maybe once a month my mom will bring my step-dad by everyone in masks, still in vehicle and speak through a cracked window for 5 or 10 minutes.

This one is simple, compare forward isolated green zone bases to more open community bases. The vast majority of bases aren't sealed away and isolated from the surrounding community. The article mentions Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, a mere 12 miles from the Las Vegas strip and simply part of the community. Hopkins shows Nevada with a 13% positivity and rising. Which just means there's uncontrolled community spread, we don't know where it is within Nevada, and we're not doing enough test/trace/test cycles to identify an isolate the infection. People working at the base have family and connections within the community. They participate in activities off the base. Just like the hospital staff that's picking up infections in the community, even if the procedures on base are minimizing exposure, they're picking it up in the community.

Exactly. You couldn't lock down a military base even if you wanted to, because a large percentage of the service members and their families don't live on post, and there wouldn't be room to house them all if they were suddenly forced to stay on base.
Did you work for the IRS?
Those would fall into the "making sure the rules are followed" side of what the government wants. Well, maybe not the NIH, but even they have their protocols they need to follow.
