All my substitutes have been appropriate for what I ordered (except Hawaiian rolls when I ordered Haiwaiian BUNS). Sounds like the staff at your local store(s) need more training or maybe to be replaced, if they simply just don't care enough to understand that a sugared sub isn't appropriate for an order of a sugar-free item.

I think it's going to vary from store to store and maybe even from shopper to shopper within a store. I've had my local grocery store call me about substitutions and ask if they could substitute whole wheat bread for the gluten free bread that was out of stock. Twice. What would make anyone think that's a good suggestion??? At least they asked first, but its like saying, "We're out of the sugar free candy you ordered but we have plenty of Snickers bars." But then other orders at the same store went off without a hitch - even if something was out of stock the substitution option made sense.

"Chicago officials announced Thursday that a stay-at-home advisory for the city will go into effect on Monday. It calls on residents to stay home unless it is essential to go out, stop having guests over, avoid unnecessary travel and cancel traditional Thanksgiving plans.

"We're asking you to avoid any non essential travel. And if you must travel, then you must either quarantine for 14 days, or depending upon the state confirm a negative COVID test before coming back," said Mayor Lori Lightfoot, CBS Chicago reports. "You must cancel the normal Thanksgiving plans, particularly if they include guests that do not live in your immediate household."

State public health officials reported 12,702 new confirmed or probable COVID-19 cases in Illinois on Thursday, the third day in a row Illinois has set a new daily case count record. Illinois also reported a new high of more than 5,200 coronavirus hospitalizations."

"I cannot emphasize that enough bars and restaurants, unfortunately, will remain closed for indoor dining, or curfew or non essential businesses remains in place. From 11pm to 6am. And while these restrictions remain the same. We will be ramping up our enforcement. I want to add this point, loud and clear. Please follow the rules. We want you to be able to stay open. But if you do not follow the rules, and we will take swift and immediate action," Lightfoot said.

I’m proud of how responsible our governor has been since the very beginning. I believe Illinois was the second state to shelter in place, and our numbers were pretty good until recently.

The problem is that the restrictions are not being followed as well now. Indoor restaurant dining has been banned for a week or so, but when I picked up our carry out order from one last Saturday, they were serving inside. We passed others that were letting people inside. In fact, they are almost all taking online reservations, and none are for outside dining.

I just saw a teaser for the news tonight talking about restaurants “fighting back.” I don’t know what the governor is going to do if none of them close for indoor dining. He can’t put them all out of business.

I agree with this. And when we began moving out of the more restrictive phases, it was based on science/numbers, and was a very gradual process. Unfortunately, as you said, restrictions are not being followed. More restaurants in our small town are open for indoor dining than not. Some are distancing inside, some are not. I still do carryout, but I am trying to stick with those restaurants that are following guidelines and are not doing indoor dining.

Those are just barely beginning to show up. Next week will be VERY telling and a preview into the holiday numbers.
And many college kids are coming home for the holidays.
Here‘s a few stories....and yes, college kids are a big part of that

Yeah, I guess I was just meaning in comparison to before. I guess people just got tired of trying.
My state has had a mask mandate since May 1 and virtually everyone I see is wearing them in public. Our numbers are going through the roof because people are getting together at private gatherings and in homes. I highly doubt they’re wearing masks at those gatherings despite the fact they would probably provide at least some protection.
