I think its implied that your ok with one kind of tightly packed group of humans but not another even if the risk is roughly the same.

St George Utah is very nice this time of year but I heard they have an outbreak (Snow College) so maybe that heat map is not the best vacation planning tool to use.

I believe this links to county level data, and the circles are ‘centered’ on that county. If you drill into the Midwest, some of the plains counties in Kansas and the dakotas look pretty ominous with huge circles, then you realize there’s only a couple thousand people in the county so the per-cap case count can get pretty high with just a few cases.

Besides good theory crafting should consider reality. The reality is a vast swath of America is not going to cancel Thanksgiving.

I can only do me, can’t control what anyone else does. I threw out there what I’m planning to do and maybe someone sees that and thinks it’s a good plan and changes their mind. I feel like a lot of the “no restrictions” crowd often stated that “we can’t live like this forever” and “what if this lasts years”. Now we have a good indication the timeframe is pretty short term so even more of a reason to stop resisting and get on board.

The election is over. The nonsense about what Joe is going to do was an attempt to create fear and get people in Western PA to vote against him. It didn’t workRenewable power has nothing to do with the price of oil anyway.
Fracking caused oil prices to drop to the point that many of the fracking sites are no longer profitable. Once you take facilities off line then the supply drops and the price rises. The problem is you can’t just flip a switch and turn sites on and off so many companies will operate at a loss hoping for a price recovery. It’s not sustainable long term. Regular, basic economics can and should prevail. Simple supply and demand will decide what happens to the price.
OK I guess it’s not about what Joe is going to do? In any event, it going to be interesting to see what happens, especially if the Dems take those two seats in the senate, oh, sorry for a reference to the election

But I agree with your last sentence. No way is COVID going to stop all Americans from having thanksgiving, no matter how many facts or risk percentages you throw at em

Uh thats exactly what im saying? Europe is not America and an oil embargo on japan ...well we know how that went. Neutrally really should have been the answer. I obviously support going to war post pearl harbor but pearl harbor didn't need to occur. It is not a justification of the worlds evil. Simply saying it is not our job to cleanse it. More importantly finance said cleansing. But i will leave it there as that is a wild tangent.

I remember reading about Notre Dame a couple pages back and the mass gathering after the game.
Guess the ND President is going to require all students to be tested and have a negative result before leaving for winter break, and have to quarantine on campus if exposed or tests positive. Discipline for not following is not being allowed to enroll in classes.

I thought universities and COVID precautions was an interesting mix. How can a public university punish you for doing something that is 1) not illegal and 2) off campus? I don’t disagree with this. A vast swath of people think Covid is a hoax or just the flu or no big deal so I wouldn’t expect any of those people to change their behavior in any way. For the more level headed people I think there’s certainly a debate on whether it’s a good idea or not to get together with extended family, especially high risk and elderly people.
