I play a mobile game in which I can watch ads for certain rewards in-game. I just saw one this evening saying people willing to participate in a COVID vaccine study could receive up to $1220 in compensation. I didn't follow the link, but it was the first time I've seen such an ad anywhere.
I actually just got a mailer this week with that same $1220 trial offer.

Distribution will be difficult. I was impressed with the write up that Pfizer had on their progress. They have the freezer farms where they partnered with UPS and DHL to build out as well as the reusable shipping containers ready to go. They are going for a just-in-time delivery process where the vaccine doses are delivered to the end user within several days of production. The 2 dose thing becomes really problematic though. They would need to really make sure the coordination is spot on. Moderna has to rely on a third party more but they have a deal in place too. JnJ and AstraZenaca also have huge distribution capability. If we get a safe, working vaccine in record time they will figure out a way to get it over the finish line.

Here‘s the Wall Street Journal Article on Pfizer:

The scale of the operation is enormous. They will be able to ship almost 8M doses a day when fully up and running meaning there’s a good chance they could get up to 200M doses delivered in a few months. That’s 60% of the US population and doesn‘t include the first wave of doses delivered as soon as they get approval. Theoretically that means they could potentially get the 2 doses of the vaccine out to most people that want it in a mater of 2-3 months. Lots would have to go well, but certainly a reason to be optimistic.

Lots of difficulties with vaccines. Because this has more headlines...doesn’t mean that they won’t have to deal with manufacturing, distribution, limited effectiveness, perhaps mutation that will require a yearly “flu” type cocktail (I’m not saying it’s the flu...just saying the vaccine may end up being similar)

...a nice effective vaccine would be a welcome Change in luck. Gonna take time. This next 6 months will really shape the future...especially with travel.

Wash your hands and wear the damn masks...drink at home...don’t got to Walmart cause you’re bored...

"Spain has declared a national state of emergency and imposed a night-time curfew in an effort to help control a new spike in Covid-19 infections. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said the curfew, between the hours of 23:00 and 06:00, would come into force on Sunday.

Under the emergency measures, local authorities can also ban travel between regions, he said. Mr Sánchez said he would ask parliament to approve an extension of the new rules from 15 days to six months."

"Meanwhile, Italy is shutting cinemas, swimming pools and gyms from Monday in a further attempt to curb the rapid rise in coronavirus infections there.

Bars and restaurants will have to close by 18:00 but shops and the majority of businesses will remain operating. Italy's measures were agreed between Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and regional leaders.

Mr Conte has said he does not want to repeat the national lockdown imposed during the first wave in March and April because of the economic damage caused. Under the new measures, the bulk of secondary school teaching will be conducted online instead of in the classroom."

I‘m on board with doing what it takes now, but I’ve mostly given up on the masses being on board. Way too many people still either think the virus is no big deal or going away on its own or that they are a special snowflake and their “must do” is a good exception to the rules. IMHO an effective vaccine is our only way out of this.

On the vaccine front, there’s no telling if Covid will be like some other season type viruses that mutate and come back each year requiring a new vaccine. It’s possible but not a lock to happen. The manufacturing part I’m not as concerned with at least for Pfizer, JnJ and AstraZeneca since they do this all the time. Worst case scenario is delays in manufacturing stretch out the timeline. I’m also not as concerned with delivery to the locations for vaccination. UPS, FedEx and DHL are all very capable of handling the spike. Pfizer’s vaccine needs to be packaged at a very low temp so that’s a concern but they have designed their own shipping containers that utilize dry ice. The CEO has confirmed they have enough supply of dry ice as well. That was a concern due to the explosion of growth in pre-packaged food deliveries during the pandemic that also use dry ice in delivery.

Where the vaccine concern comes in for me is the final stage where they deliver the cases to a hospital or lab or pharmacy for vaccination of the public. That’s the part that will need some serious coordination and could be a full on mess in some areas. The federal government needs to focus on ensuring the states and localities have the funding necessary to get the vaccine to everyone. Larger urban areas may be easier but getting a vaccine out to the rural areas that needs to be kept frozen until the day of use is a lot trickier. If we just rely on local resources to get it done it may be a train wreck. That’s where a centralized effort needs to be made. Anyone else have faith in the federal government to do that? That’s where the concern comes in.

Under the current administration, not at all.

If you like standing in long, socially distant lines ;)

I see no issue with going to WDW right now as long as you are willing to follow the rules. My issue is more with people doing stuff against the rules like group gatherings (especially indoors) and stuff that is higher risk (packed bars, etc). All bets are off with the holidays approaching. Going to WDW would be a much better option than say going to Thanksgiving dinner with 20+ family members and nobody wearing a mask but I don’t want to start that debate. People are going to do what they are going to do. Like I said above...we’re all in on the vaccines now. I pray they work.

Agreed. Although that wasn’t an attempted swipe at the current administration. I have little faith in the government organizing something of this scale no matter who is in charge. With the current lot there are even less qualified people in key positions than normal, but those guys just set the tone from the top (which is still important), the leg work will be done by career workers in departments not the political appointees. I have much more faith in the parts of the process controlled by well established large corporations since they have people in charge who earn bonuses based on success or failure. Nothing motivates efficiency like the good old fashioned buck.

I don't remember the lines ever being short pre-covid.

Why does the administration matter? WDW has been doing very well since they opened. WDW isn't going to change their operation based on who gets elected.

Not WDW. Outside of the CA Governor causing them some issues I don’t think the government matters much to their policies. In that post we were talking about vaccine distribution if/when one gets approved. I don’t think it really matters all that much who is POTUS for vaccine coordination. The government is unlikely to be very efficient no matter who’s in charge.

The states have been doing there own thing since this started I would expect that to continue.

The former DHS Secretary said repeatedly way back in April that there needed to be a national push for distribution/storage infrastructure before the vaccines were made

Think anyone lifted a finger??
