Don’t be righteously aggressive here. The use of the collective “we“ is obvious to any reader. Of course there will be horrific losses. Of course there will be families devastated. But, in any time of crisis, it is rather common place to speak as a collective “we“. It is a sign of solidarity, and empathy. We are all feeling the pain, as a nation, in this.
I'm not trying to be "righteously aggressive." To the anyone who has followed the 1915 pages of this thread, the collective "we" is part of an ongoing effort to downplay the threat of the virus and criticize the public health measures in response to it. I've read every post, and neither solidarity nor empathy have been hallmarks of that side of the discussion.

I'm not being critical, I'd just like a bit more intellectual honesty. Solidarity and empathy would be nice too.

I’ve lurked and not replied until today (drive times and the reality of Montana open spaces was my “trigger” lol), and I really haven’t seen blasé attitudes by the “cruise ship avatars”.
By others? Sure. There have been a lot of dismissive attitudes that are downright dangerous, that as they are assuredly permeating through the population will keep us from reaching low tide in this first wave. To attack a “we shall get through this” mentality or even encouraging word as dismissive or dangerous in a little disingenuous and being outraged for outrage’s sake. We can and will get through this, while hunkering down and doing the right thing the best we know how.

Our biggest problem in July was with the town of West Yellowstone shoving their heads in the sand and pretending all was normal knowing that people would file out and carry things elsewhere. We were there prior to Gov’s mask mandate, so I can’t speak to compliance now.

It was the same in August. We went to the West Yellowstone rodeo and it might as well have been another world where the virus doesn't exist. Adn the town was not a ton better, though some.

Jackson and Teton village seemed to be doing a very good job.

"Today, Disney Cruise Line announced the extension of their cruise suspension for sailings through mid-December due to the ongoing fallout of Coronavirus pandemic and the uncertainty of the CDC’s No Sail Order. Sailings onboard the Disney Fantasy will be cancelled through December 6; the Disney Dream and Disney Wonder through December 11; and the Disney Magic through December 12."

It was an offer of support. What would you like me to say to a fellow healthcare worker? "You are doomed". After working in the hospital with the most COVID admissions in the state I'm not going to say it was easy or enjoyable. It was manageable and actually not near as bad as you might think. That is mainly due to our management team, our staff, our local government, and great teamwork. Having a positive attitude goes a long way to success. It's one of those attributes that is necessary in my line of work.

I'm not really sure what kind of empathy or solidarity you are looking for. If you're looking for me to agree with you on lockdowns that's not happening.

I wonder what the other cruise lines are doing? I expect DCL to be the last to restart. They are more of a follower than a leader in the cruise industry. I go back and forth on booking next year with another cruise line or sticking with DCL.

This makes me sad for the tour operators and economies of DCL and other lines’ ports of call more than anyone. Sure, I’d love my postponed cruise to happen on a selfish note.
news stories like this, six months in, speak more to a pervasive “‘Murica” attitude that doesn’t have the stomach to sit tight, or wear a mask, or not admit to themselves that the trip to Hobby Lobby (or insert your own guilty pleasure) wasn’t “essential.”
Had we actually locked down for a few(4-6?) weeks, we’d be in much better shape as a whole. I gave my governor in MT a lot of credit for “jumping the gun” closing down when we did in relation to cases, but we (state) did nothing to prepare for reopening. Now, like many other states it seems looking at raw numbers, we just ride it out while acting fools wondering why the line dancing bar can’t be open after six months.

You know what's funny?

I’m not quite sure I have downplayed anything...also not sure what side I am on either. Haha

Not much here. They are starting to sail in Europe but barely. Covid test is required 72 hours before. Then a rapid test on the day of embarkation. Any excursions will be done through the cruise line. No going off on your own.

Sometimes it is us healthcare workers that are too crusty and raw for the rest of society. Sometimes, though I am empathic, my circle of people look at me with awe that I’m not shocked when people die. It doesn’t help that my wife was a CVICU and trauma nurse for years. We get along best with active duty military and combat vets 🤣

Agree with me on lockdowns?

I guess what you have intended as a positive disposition came across to me as downplaying. I am sorry I misrepresented you.

I wouldn't be surprised to see cruises gone for a whole year.

Funny you read my post as an "attack," when I meant it more as a correction and call to acknowledge the gravity of the situation.

When I read through this thread, patterns emerge–the two major sides of the discussion, the sarcasm, the political comments. Have you noticed any patterns? My post was simply about noticing similar responses from @LUVMCO and @Andrew C, who both happen to have cruise ships as their avatars. Initially confused one for the other (BTW, I started a thread about mistaking members with similar avatars), but then posted the reminder that despite our positive thinking, lots of people are dying needlessly.

I'm not outraged. I just want good discussion done in good faith.

Case in point:
I'm sure you wouldn't.

I would expect Carnival, Royal, or NCL to take the lead. I've cruised on Royal and Carnival and I'm not opposed to my first cruise being on one of them. I'm just anxious to see what the new protocols are going to be. I may not even want to do a cruise next year. I've checked out some the Adventure by Disney packages, but the prices give me heartburn. I thought DCL was expensive.

Apologies for the misunderstanding. It felt like a specific “callout,” but internet tone isn’t always understood. Sincere apologies.

There are multiple people with goofy avatars, but none as charming and witty as me  It makes sense since we all know Goofy is the star of the show and that pair of cheese eating rats just steal his spotlight.

Sorry for the distraction...carry on with the doom and gloom vs Covid denial
