But...those that currently have jobs just can’t arbitrarily switch to their shift, if that’s not an option in their company.
This is why employers need to be as flexible as possible with workers. It’s impossible with certain jobs to flex hours Or work from home, but in a lot of cases it’s doable if people think outside the box. We’re all in this together and this virtual schooling crap is a reality we all have to live with somehow.

You know what's funny?
The one big difference is in Wuhan and Italy and NYC people went into full stay at home orders in the first month of the major outbreak arc. This time we aren’t doing that. Should be a decent test to see if the virus slows down on its own anyway. In theory it will, but at what cost?
Florida may not be in full lockdown, but they aren’t in full opening either. Sort of that weird middle ground where I feel there are unknowns.

I think we know the knowns.Just how bad will it get. Hopefully not to bad whatever each person’s opinion on bad is.

I’m truly not trying to argue but I don’t understand what you mean by not fully open? Sure there are not conventions and concerts but restaurants are open at 75% capacity if I’m not mistaken and of course theme parks regular parks etc. A lot of stores have begun mandating masks but that was only last week. And I don’t think some go into affect until August. And then of course bars. That might not be considered normal but I consider that way too open. Maybe that’s what you meant by the middle ground? I guess I’m just an alarmist at the core and I see people out and about acting like everything is normal.

We might as well be in full opening. No we don't have bars open but almost everything else is. People are going to work, grocery stores, etc. Restaurants are open with a mix of compliance. I can't say that people are necessarily being risky, as I think most people are complying, but I've been in scenarios where people were not wearing masks in stores. (My local UPStore guy refuses to wear a mask and makes fun of people who do, but he's always been an ....)

Plus schools reopening soon. If Florida was a country in Europe with these numbers, we would be in shock at what they were doing.

I think they are at 50% capacity. There are also limitations on large gatherings and a few other things. I personally think they should have a statewide mask mandate. But I was just pointing out that everything there is not fully opened and up and running.

It’s an odd place that they are in. If you remember back to end of April and the metrics FL set for re-opening, most of the state today would not get the green light to move to phase 1 of re-opening, but they are well beyond phase 1 and into most of phase 2 still. The pull back hasn’t exactly happened as expected or planned.

Yeah, probably. It’s just a bit of sarcasm since we heard repeatedly from the Covid denier crowd back in the end of June that the spike in cases was irrelevant because it’s just young, asymptomatic people. Death rate was all that mattered. Now the death rate is irrelevant because of the lag in reporting. I get dizzy from all the spinning

To the spinning, it's now past comical...

I was really hoping we wouldn't see the positivity rate get back over 11%. It didn't go much higher, but really wanted that to continue down.

And over 200 deaths is awful. Wonder if the people posting "20% day over day reduction in death totals" will be brave enough to do the opposite now?

J/K, we know they wont...

A lot of professionals agree, we need a full shutdown. I get it that we can't keep things closed forever, but I truly believe that if we did a hard shutdown for a month or 2, we could have our economy going again by the holidays. I know a lot of people dont want this, and its not that I WANT it, but we may have to do something this drastic to defeat the virus.

Purgatory? :)
Academically, it’s an interesting experiment. FL is bucking the trend of pulling back on as much activity during a major spike in cases and I’m assuming the goal (hope?) is that cases come down anyway on their own and then the government takes their victory lap saying they saved the economy and got the same outcome they would have had they pulled back. In real life practical terms you are gambling with people’s health and lives. It’s a big risk. One thing that everyone has to keep in mind is the people have a choice. Just because the governor doesn’t mandate masks doesn’t mean everyone can’t wear them anyway. Just because the governor allows bars to remain open using the restaurant loophole doesn’t mean you can’t avoid them or just get takeout. Just because theme parks are open doesn’t mean you have to go...etc.

Yeah I feel like enough counties are NOT mandating masks that now we’ll see a rise in those counties because nay sayers will drive an extra 45 minutes just so they don’t have to wear a mask. I’ve seen people in my local groups saying they’ll just stop giving business to target, Walmart, and publix... ‘there are other places to shop’. Have fun finding Sally her coveted Barbie doll at ‘Jim Bob’s deli and tool store’ 🙄
