Seems like a good solution. Made no sense to have two bystander teams both sitting not playing, while in the same division.

Hopefully the Phillies continue to test negative and the Marlins, well, it looks like we'll see their AAA team soon.

(as if the Marlins weren't already a AAA(A) team)

If I were an AL East team, I would not be happy about this. Having the Yankees play a few extra games against the Orioles could impact the final outcome of the season since there are so few games.

What ever they do they better do it fast. September is coming quickly.
20-30 kids in a room for 8 hours a day is no remedy to curb transmission....even with masks.
Good luck getting kindergartners to wear a mask for an hour let alone 8.

That’s not two days. It’s a week. I’m not spinning anything. Feel free to dig into the data. Hospitalizations, cases, positivity, all falling.

The mean and mode of new cases in Florida for the last 30 days is between 9K and 10K. The only way one could say its going down is in relation to anomaly days where we hit 15K. Don't confuse the national numbers with the state specific ones. graphs here

September? Florida starts in early August.
I saw that Volusia County (east coast south of Daytona) delayed the start of the year until 8/31. They would have been going back in a little over 2 weeks. I think it would be smart to delay the start of school (especially physical school) in any place where community spread is rampant. Percent positive should be at least below 10% and preferably under 5% before they open. It’s possible that we could be back to those levels in Sept some time. Why not delay and have the best hope for schools to go back and stay back. Opening physical schools in a few weeks seems like a very poor strategy.

I wonder if they will consider closing one park a day for some days once Sept rolls around and kids are back in school. I know they would lose the up sell to the multi-park ticket for Potter Lands, but at some point it may be better to save the cost of keeping both parks open but empty.
Ive though about that idea, maybe something disney could look at too.

In what world is $475 a week enough to get by on in Florida?? Before deductions that's less than $2,000 a month. Then, let's be generous and assume that one's share of rent with roommates is $600 (which is extremely on the low end for Orlando). Take out groceries, gas, tolls, utilities, and other bills and you're left with hardly anything to "live". It's clear that you've never had to live off a theme park wage before.
Not everyone lives in metro areas such as Orlando and Miami. Whether you believe it or not people make $9-10 per hour in FL and manage to live on it as supported by other forum members.

There is something called minimum wage and some still make it . Have you heard the term? Surprise!

The $475 is assuming that the ancient technology used “great state of Florida” for the unemployment system actually calculates the 70% correctly. I’m not confident that will happen, as many I know are still awaiting missing $600 CARES Acts payments...which you’d think would be easy to pay as it’s a set amount.

You know what's funny?

This isn’t solely a Florida problem. Although their system is probably one of the worst. At least it seems that way. Lol.

it’s not quite 2x federal poverty level for an individual and is poverty level for family 3+

I know a family of 3+, husband works day shift, wife works night shift, both take care of kids without daycare. It's not easy by any means but people step up and sacrifice to provide for their families.

Found out today that my kid’s schools will be going full virtual for the first marking period. They had a plan to offer both physical and virtual as a choice, but there was a lot of uncertainty around whether the governor would allow the physical option. The district chose full virtual so they have plenty of time to prepare teachers and students on how the new online system will work. I am disappointed this happened, but we have seen a mild uptick in cases recently and the trend wasn’t moving the right way. A large number of recent cases in my state have been traced back to people who traveled to hot spots. Obviously the travel restrictions that require a 14 day quarantine aren’t being followed in all cases. So I hope the trips to Myrtle Beach and FL were worth not having schools go back...not that most of the people doing that really care :(
