That's the winning argument. I have no sympathy whatsoever for the "other guests" argument, but I don't know how to respond to the "what about the employees..." argument.

I haven't seen it proposed by anyone, but I'd support a law that protects employees who choose not to return to work for the duration of the pandemic, similar to protections required for maternity leave or jury duty.
I’m not sure if I had posted this yet… But my husband was under the impression that his return from furlough was optional... it wasn’t. He even tried to push back a little bit and try to understand why he was not given the option to remain on furlough (and don’t forget he makes more working than furloughed) . They gave him kind of a run around and really had no answers. They told him that his return was mandatory… Even though there are others there that can take on his role… And that if he wanted to take an unpaid medical leave of absence he could do that. He has a heart condition that throws clots and as we all know covert 19 can cause clots so he’s high risk. He’s taking all the precautions he can and wearing a face mask a face shield washing his hands so bad that they are bleeding and cracked eating lunch in his car stripping in the garage. Then he showers immediately before touching me or the kids. That’s all we can do I guess.

I feel like Disney is taking a lot of good precautions but I don’t think it’s going to be enough to keep people from getting sick because not all employees are wearing face shields. We bought those on our own because I told him he was going to have to not go back if he didn’t have some kind of other protection other than a mask. Mask to mask works but there’s also droplets in the air and a lot of those crazy people who have those fake medical cards that will try to not wear their mask.

You know what's funny?
Yes, and I am saddened that they must work during this period, I myself was an essential worker until I got furloughed, it as hard, but the key word is essential. Disney is NOT essential.

Yes, must work...they have no choice because society has deemed their job necessary, whether they want to take the risk or not. But some want to give WDW CMs preferential treatment because they are non-essential. Nah. Treat everyone the same; that is fair. If your place of work is open, you either work or you don't. If you don't, you don't get paid. If this attitude is good enough regarding essential workers, it is good enough for the non-essential worker.

I'm sorry but you will never convince me that Disney is an essential.

This, but not sarcastically.

There is no "shut down to limit total cases." That's not an option. At best, even another full shutdown will do nothing but delay the inevitable. Absent a vaccine, cases will continue to rise no matter what. That's just a fact. As long as hospitalizations aren't straining capacity, we just have to accept it.

"Flatten the curve" doesn't limit cases. It just spreads cases out over time so that the peak doesn't exceed hospital capacity. The area under the curve is the same.
And so many places have dramatically reduced the number of new cases and are not surging to new highs. You can’t say something is impossible as it is happening repeatedly.

If they choose to stay home they should not be collecting unemployment. If they do they should the be quarantined to their homes. No bars or beaches etc.
Like my mom used to say if your too sick to go to school then your to sick to go outside and play.
So you were saying quite literally they should have to choose between risking their lives or working? How coldhearted can you be? My husband is high-risk and had no choice but to return to work why shouldn’t he be able to stay home and continue unemployment if he’s high risk?

Disney and Universal are under no requirement to let someone in if they don't wear a mask. I can write letters for my patients stating they have asthma/copd/etc and that a mask makes it more difficult to breathe but that letter doesn't have the authority to make a property owner or business allow them in. It's not an ADA issue.

Like dominos
3 states pulling back now.

I was in Northern California last weekend and went to a couple different casinos. Both had temperature checks but only 1 required face masks. I haven't heard anything of increased cases from that and with everything indoors and slot machines throughout I would expect something. If casinos can operate safely, why can't a theme park.

Did he apply and get approved for family medical leave? I think the time off is several weeks.

Yeah, it's totally possible to delay, which is what they're doing. They're just kicking the can down the road. Unless they stay locked down literally forever, they're going to have the same surge Florida has now whenever they decide to open.

Didn't try to. But you seem to value the safety of one life over another because their place of work is deemed to be essential and the other is not. As I said, treat everyone the same. We of course, could always change our attitude around the essential worker...
We have already, most of their pay has been reduced again to pre pandemic status. Our attitude has changed but for the worse.

Why are all of these people getting tested? Are they feeling sick? I thought that they were only testing those who needed it. Why waste your time if you are not experiencing any symptoms.
The point is to have the capacity to test everyone. Asymptomatic positives are the ones who most easily spread the virus. So no, its not a waste of time.
