Hello Disney Experts. I am use to staying at AKL or WL but I had to cut my expenses and for the first time I will be staying at CSR. I have never stayed at a moderate before so I hope I will not be terribly let down. I became so familar with the layout and where everything is over at AKL & WL (restaurants & all). I will be going to the World in the middle of July.
I really need everyones tips, which building to request (I booked a preferred room) do's & don't, restaurant skinny (both Maya Grill & Pepper Market, Rix lounge) any thoughts and help at all would be great!!! Hey I
will be @ Disney which is the main thing!!!!!! By the way I may be solo a few days, so any tips there also welcome!!!!:)

OK I was hoping to piggy back but when I look at your dates well I will be there before you :( Looking at April 7-10... Originally was planning to hit RIX lounge for valentines day but things got crazy with friends ended up with Bob Jackson which was also phenomenal. Just like you I am used the layout of AKL (was just there Feb.). Well I guess I will be sharing news with you when I get back.. unless you decide to go before me...

I've really only visited there once to do a quick photo tour, but the one tip I can pass along is that you can avoid the 10% Service Fee at the Pepper Market by getting your food to-go. Just tell the greeter at the entrance you'll be taking it to-go and they'll give you a special card. (And when you pay the cashier, make sure they didn't charge you the fee)

You can then bring your food outside to the tables near the water, over to the pool or back to your room. There used to be tables at the bar next to Pepper Market, but that was before the whole Cafe Rix/Rix Lounge was built, so I'm not sure what the setup is now.

I just stayed at CSR for the first time in January. Really liked Pepper Market (but was also on the DDP, so didn't worry about the 10%) and Cafe Rix was a good place to grab something quick. Rix Lounge looked really cool, but we never made it there for a drink. Also, check a map for the closest bus stop to your room. We didn't do that the first day and I didn't feel like wandering around at night if we got off at the wrong stop. So we ended up walking a lot farther than was necessary.

I'm a deluxe hotel brat, but I really liked the scenery and ambiance of the grounds. The rooms were really nice too, even if the bathrooms left something to be desired.

Have a great trip!!

We stayed there last April and really enjoyed it. As far as the restaraunt and everything goes, it's all in the main building where you check in, so you don't have to go looking for anything. When you enter the main building to check in, check in is to your right, the gift shop is to your left and if you go down the hallway, there is a bakery, then farther down is the Rix Lounge and the Pepper Market, then even farther down is Maya Grill. As far as Maya Grill goes, we ate there and the food was good, but there was nothing about the restaraunt that really stood out as being a WDW restaraunt. It was pretty much like any restaraunt back home, IMO. Not bad by any means, but lacking in that special magic which you find in many of the neatly themed restaraunts around property. I have this thing where I like to have at least one night to stay at my own hotel and eat at the restaraunt at least once, and I don't regret eating there at all. I would recommend eating there simply as part of experiencing the entire hotel and all that it has to offer, but if you don't care about that and just want the best restaraunts, then this one can be skipped.

I thought about requesting a particular section, but I decided instead just to take whatever section I was assigned and be surprised. We ended up in the Casitas. Not really any complaints, although as we walked the grounds, I thought the Cabanas looked really pretty and figured if we ever stay there again, I will request that section.

Also, if you're used to staying at Deluxes, with the more compact spacing, you may be used to just leaving your room and walking down the hall and downstairs to the restaraunt. The moderates are much more spread out and you may have to walk across the grounds to get to the main building. Myself, I don't really care, seeing as how I'm walking around the theme parks all day long, so walking across the grounds isn't that big of a deal by comparison. But I'm actually in the opposite situation. Having stayed twice at POR and at Coronado last year, I'm used to the longer walks and, even though I don't really mind, as I just said, I do look forward to just walking down the hall and downstairs to get to the pool or the restaraunt, since we're staying at the Wilderness Lodge this time around.

There are tables there but they are really only free in the mornings. Outside is a bit nicer though, they have a few newer tables along the water if they are open.

I too have stayed at WL and AKL over the past few years and decided to stay at CSR in November (10) and was pleasantly surprised. Not surprised that I'd enjoy myself but impressed at the overall condition/beauty of the resort. Really enjoyed walking around the lake (yes, walking .. GASP!!) as well as the pool area, which the kids really liked (big pool, slide, large playground area).

I'd say my only two complaints were that the Pepper Market was generally congested and unorganized (no clear cut queueing areas for the various stations, etc) plus we had a very poor meal at Maya Grill. Probably an anomoly but our meal took an hour and quarter to come out and my steak was WAY over done, not to mention the service was sub-standard. Kids were crying so I couldn't stick around for another steak to be cooked so I just asked for the bill and the manager appeared and comp'ed the whole meal (even after I said I'd pay for the other family member's meals) and gave us 4 refillable mugs .. so I appreciated them doing the right thing.

One other slight black mark was I had two different reservations (1 night room only + 6 night package) because I added a day and the lady that first checked me in said there would be no problems (in a strong Jamaican accent .. who wouldn't believe that??)staying in the same room for my secondary resv. Well, as you guessed I get there to check in the following morning for my 6 night pkg and they tell me I need to move rooms -- Umm, we already emptied out all of the kids clothes and supplies so I'm pretty upset about the situation. About 30 minutes and 3 managers later I got everything resolved, but as a note make SURE you verify that you can stay in the same room and make sure you have it noted in your reservation.

Otherwise, a very pleasant stay and BEAUTIFUL resort.

I have stayed at ALL Disney Resort levels and honestly. CSR is STILL one of my FAVORITE Disney resorts! I really do not think you will be disappointed.

CSR is a HUGE resort, so I definitely recommend requesting a building close to El Centro. I personally like the Cabanas and Casita buildings.

They re-did the rooms, but not the bathrooms. They were a little run-down looking.
In 2009, they redid everything including the bathrooms.

Cleaned out.

This is one of the papers taped to the window of a unit. It shows the order of things to be done and by which trade. The completion date for them is the 19th.

Another telling the trades the items for this room and locations in the room.

We will be there in August. I cannot wait. My oldest is looking forward to the slide and I think my DH is too. I cannot wait to just look at the grounds, eat at Pepper Market and sleep in the newly renovated rooms.
