We stayed there last April and really enjoyed it. As far as the restaraunt and everything goes, it's all in the main building where you check in, so you don't have to go looking for anything. When you enter the main building to check in, check in is to your right, the gift shop is to your left and if you go down the hallway, there is a bakery, then farther down is the Rix Lounge and the Pepper Market, then even farther down is Maya Grill. As far as Maya Grill goes, we ate there and the food was good, but there was nothing about the restaraunt that really stood out as being a WDW restaraunt. It was pretty much like any restaraunt back home, IMO. Not bad by any means, but lacking in that special magic which you find in many of the neatly themed restaraunts around property. I have this thing where I like to have at least one night to stay at my own hotel and eat at the restaraunt at least once, and I don't regret eating there at all. I would recommend eating there simply as part of experiencing the entire hotel and all that it has to offer, but if you don't care about that and just want the best restaraunts, then this one can be skipped.
I thought about requesting a particular section, but I decided instead just to take whatever section I was assigned and be surprised. We ended up in the Casitas. Not really any complaints, although as we walked the grounds, I thought the Cabanas looked really pretty and figured if we ever stay there again, I will request that section.
Also, if you're used to staying at Deluxes, with the more compact spacing, you may be used to just leaving your room and walking down the hall and downstairs to the restaraunt. The moderates are much more spread out and you may have to walk across the grounds to get to the main building. Myself, I don't really care, seeing as how I'm walking around the theme parks all day long, so walking across the grounds isn't that big of a deal by comparison. But I'm actually in the opposite situation. Having stayed twice at POR and at Coronado last year, I'm used to the longer walks and, even though I don't really mind, as I just said, I do look forward to just walking down the hall and downstairs to get to the pool or the restaraunt, since we're staying at the Wilderness Lodge this time around.
