Cool Stuff Backstage as seen from Google

Just like pretty much all buildings. <grin> They are everywhere, people just have learned to ignore them. It's amazing how that green paint seems to blend well with everything. Just like people tend to phase out telephone poles and the white underground markers (the orange topped ones are for fiber/data trunks).

And the yellow ones mean, "If you dig here, you'll explode."

I challenge you guys to find a alligator on WDW property...

Another note:
From this far out shot, you see the canal coming from Bay Lake, all the way south past Celebration. Does this mean that at one time WDW included all the property west of that canal and as far south as to where the canal ends? Do they still own all that land south of 192 and west of I4? As well as land around Celebration? If I understand correctly, WDW property does not include Celebration but it once did. A

...Sry I know I need to get some good books and read up! Any historical maps to compare would be awesome.View attachment 92377

As far as I know TDO built Celebration. It's the closest thing to Walt's EPCOT vision. Once built TDO / Reedy Creek de-annexed it from the Disney Property. I'm not sure how much around it they still own, or if they just took a big knife and cut straight across east to west. I do know though that Disney still has many offices within Celebration too. I assume they own the buildings like a normal property owner would. The reason for the de-annex is that the residence would have lived on Disney property and then have voting right s for Reedy Creek. Hence the two small housing developments that are approx. 8 houses each. One within Bay Lake city and the other within Lake Buena Vista.
I would also assume that Golden Oak once completed will be de-annex also.

I have thought the same about the area near the new flamingo crossing project over by western way just outside of the traditional property of Disney. I wonder if they own out there also since they are directing how the area will be built even though the stuff being built will not be Disney. Plus the area directly south of animal kingdom has a 7-eleven on it. It too looks like it is within WDW boundaries. Maybe a situation of Disney leasing the land to those entities. o_O

If you want to see who owns what around Disney you can use the Orange County Property Appraiser map site, http://maps.ocpafl.org/webmap/. You can click on a property and get the details including the sale history. The property highlighted here was sold by Disney to Flamingo Crossings LLC (which is a Disney subsidiary) in 2011 for $100.

Nice! I'll have to check that out. I have been using sunbiz to lookup business details. Like with golden oak, etc. Last time I check with golden oak info it still had name at Disney still associated with some of the businesses involved with that deal.

On the maps. I've read about alligator encounters a couple of times, but have never seen one on aerial pics.
And you most likely never will. Alligators spend most of their lives in the water where they blend in quite well especially when given the advantage of the limited resolution of Google Maps and the like. I have lost count of the number of alligators I have seen on property. Ironically night time is the easiest time to spot them if you have a good, non-LED flashlight. Just shine it over the water and their eye glow like red gems.

To add to the list of things you probably will never see on the satellite images...

Deer: Just walk the yellow bus route at Ft Wilderness around 2:00 AM and you will practically trip over them.

Turkeys: I have actually seen a pair of males stop traffic by WL while fighting over a hen.

Otters: They are a frequent sight in the canals around MK. The cutest thing I ever say was a mom and 3 pups crossing the road from one canal to the other behind the speedway.

THOSE TURKEYS THOUGH. They are so mean. I saw someone try to feed them off Griffen Road last week. I almost told them to get back in the car and floor it.
That they are especially when a hen is involved. They also don't really have any predators to speak of in WDW and they get huge.

I was looking at the Railroad going around MK. I have never ridden it myself, but it looks like the railroad goes underneath Splash Mountain just before getting to the Adventured Station. Is this correct? Would this mean there is a tunnel for the railroad built into splash? Or does it pass around the back side of Splash? Haha either way, we will definitely ride it when we go back in September.

It goes through a tunnel and the final scene of Splash (the riverboat zip-a-dee-doo-dah scene) is visible through windows.

There is a tunnel that the steam train goes through in splash mountain, also at pirates too. It goes behind big thunder though.

This tunnel is my new favorite spot on property. It's forever known as," the spot I passed out for the second time and puked at, even though I was behind a fence the whole train saw me..."
Better than were it happened to me about 25 years ago, which was on a tram in front of Epcot.
