Conduct on these Boards

I have been on these boards for a few years now and there have always been the occasional angry exchange on certain threads, but it seems to be happening more and more recently. I am seeing more and more threads where people are resorting to personal attacks against other members.

I really enjoy these boards, there is a great mix of people here with different backgrounds and different points of view. Even when I don't agree with someone I try to be respectful of them, I try to disagree without making it personal. I will admit that I don't always succeed in this and will confess to having said things I probably shouldn't have, but I am trying hard to be more careful what I say.

I encourage everyone to try to be respectful of others on the boards. We can all have interesting and even passionate debates about these topics without have to resort to personal attacks. It isn't even necessary to attack people who have obviously come here to troll, they do it to get a rise out of people and if we don't take the bait they will likely go away.

So let's all resolve to try to bring the level of anger here down a couple notches.

Thanks for reading!

I have to say that I have seen this across the board in society in general. I own a business and have seen it in our customer base and likewise have networked with some other business owners who have observed the same. For whatever reason we seem to be an increasingly angry and aggressive people. It is a sad state of affairs but for whatever reason we seem to have unreasonable expectations at times or want to puff our chests out when people have differing views.

We all have an affinity for Disney so I am all for open discussion and mutual respect for each others opinions regardless of agreement or not. Just my $0.02

Yes, this does happen a lot more... saddly, everywhere :(. But our Mods HAVE added a great feature... the "ignore button". Rather than engauging in a fight with a troll? I, just put 'em on my ignore list. May not be for everyone, but it works for me. WDW is just too much fun to waste time dealing with the occasional person with issues :).

Same here. I love the ignore button. I come to these boards for recreation and information, not to bicker, bother or harass. If we do not share the same opinion on something, fine. I doubt very much that me trying to change your mind will do any less than annoy you and others so why bother? I really enjoy most people on these boards, the stories and information they share and how we all get each other excited for and nearer to our next WDW vacation.

I'm pretty new here and right away I noticed the snarkiness. (I guess I first stumbled upon that WDW vs Univ thread that someone else mentioned.) I spent about a year on the Carnival Cruise Lines forum when I was preparing for our first cruise last summer and it was full of snarks! But when I came here, I was a bit surprised to see a little of that here as well.

Sadly, people on message boards are just like teenagers in high school. Big bullies. Mean and nasty because they can be. I wish I could give better advice on how to deal with them, but I can't, as I always get sucked in to arguments. It just boggles my mind, same way it did in high school, why some people would go out of their way to be mean to another person.

Gah, I know! And then you stumbled into the stroller post!! I promise, posts like that are pretty few and far between. People don't usually make blanket rude statements like that!!

Stick around, I promise we're awesome here!! <3

Most people here are very nice. But there are a few that can't seem to get through a thread without insulting someone to try and be funny or come off as intellectually superior.

I did, didn't I?!? That was another example... that person was insulting people's parenting skills. I mean, you're at Disney... there's going to be lots of strollers! Oh, yeah, look at my profile pic... lol... he was 4 at the time, guess I was over the stroller age limit.

Yeah, but in high school that didn't last as long because I was able to grab the other person by the neck and beat them senseless. These days there are a lot of "internet tough guys". They act that way because you are not able to lay your hands on them. I'm quite sure that they are not like this in real life. They'd be spitting teeth all day.

While we may be awesome, there is a whole lot of snarkiness. That said, it's pretty easy to predict where the snarkiness will show up, so it becomes easily avoidable.

Lol I posted my views on Soarin' in another thread with constructive criticism yet still get flamed down by people who disagree with me. Do I not have a right to an opinion even if they don't agree with it?

I respect everyone's opinion even if I disagree and just live with it and don't get all angry and attack them for their opinion o_O
