Hm. Lets see. How about we get back to basics. Enough with the check. Where you there? Nope. Ok then.

You are absolutely correct. I suppose I should have said when it's anything other than a cool or cold day, jackets make security personnel suspicious. Hand bags also tend to set of the alarm.

so does a guest in business attire with a laptop..

Why would the average visitor bring a laptop into any of the WDW parks? Inquiring minds (and security) want to know.

I'm not an average visitor.. I went to Epcot on a weekday evening, as an annual passholder, to have a few gourmet coffees in World Showcase and get some work done on my computer. I told this to the security CM and he informed me if I was to be seen again with my laptop out I would be escorted out of the park. I asked for a security manager, and was told one would be there shortly. One never arrived, I complained to guest relations and handed in my AP for a refund, which I received. Now I wish I had kept my AP. Oh well. To some WDW is lots of things... to me, World Showcase is a giant Starbucks with a better variety of food/drinks.

Just as WDW has rules concerning backstage pictures, I think they are probably also very concerned with wireless access to their various networks. The average PDA is not a threat but a properly configured laptop might (for example) pick up all the Pal Mickey information.

then they should have checked my laptop. My wireless card wasn't in. I was editing pictures and writing a few letters. Nothing more. But then again, this method of thinking is beyond the minds of Disney Security Management... since I couldn't even get a manager to explain what I did wrong. Hell... they checked my bag when I entered, and they saw my laptop in it. I was told nothing at the gate. Nothing.
Also... Disney runs a secure Wireless LAN with a 128 bit hexkey controlling access. Even IF I wanted to get into it, I don't have the time or patience to... and nothing to gain. But that was more on a personal note.

Yes, I agree. However the average WDW security person is not going to have expert computer knowledge. You know as well as I that some people wouldn't know a laptop if it hit them in the head while others might. I think your last statement is the key. While you and I don't desire such access, there are some people that would spend the time to hack into the system. Some do such things for profit. Most do such things just for the sake of hacking the system. They are "computer mountian climbers".

Plus PAL Mickey probably uses 2.4ghz frequency, not 802.11a/b/g. Plus, Disney has security out the wazzo. Sure, a laptop does raise questions, and yes, given time and energy, you can hack anything.

Quick thread drift.
TT321, your avatar, is that the Blue Men Group? Sure looks like the istruments they use. Saw them one time when they were here at Disney, funny as hell.

They were here like aeons before they were on the Dell (I believe it was Dell) TV ads. I know it was before they were on TV though, maybe by like three months.

When they at least have their security guards state certified, then I may begin taking them seriously.

Ah but then that would cost MONEY, wouldn't it?
