Incoming flight

Thank you for the "Welcome Back" greetings!
My body is still on Irish Time.
As I post this in my home....in Brick NJ it is 7:52am
Yet since I have not yet adjusted back to EST time....my body recognizes that at the time of this post it is 12:52pm in Ireland

I am wide awake and ready to tackle mountains of clothes that need to go thru the washing machine and dryer.
Let's see how my wife does as she reports to work in just over an hour.
Focusing on that will probably be challenging.

Just take it easy today. Laundry is o.k. to do -- not too much effort.

When I travelled overseas, I had a heck of an effort to adjust to time in Ireland. When I returned back to the States, I readjusted to U.S. time in a day, at the most!

Don't be like me when I flew back from Hawaii and changed my clock 5 hours . After arriving, I was stopped at a red light waiting for green, I closed for eyes just for a second, then turned out to be a few minutes , woke up when I could hear the cars behind me all honking their horns.

how much cash did you pay with vs credit card?

I tried getting pounds at AAA yesterday. Could only pay with debit, check or cash - nothing that I had. Lady that came after me....same thing. She's was going to Lisbon and mispronounced euros.

In the Republic of Ireland we used credit card 80% and Euros 20%
In Northern Ireland we used credit cards for everything. There was no need to get any British Pounds.

The only place in Europe (that I’ve traveled to - and there are many counties I’ve missed so I’m no expert) where you really need cash is Germany and some random parts of Austria. Cash is king in Germany, as a matter of preference and the first week of June there were issues throughout the country with credit card processors. As in, they were down so they couldn’t take credit card. We had to be careful with our Euros. We could only get $900 from our bank - they said they were overrun with requests for Euros this spring and summer. I think we got a few hundred more at a local bank in Germany and paid the exchange fees.
We got out less than $100 pounds for tips in London (so American I know, but we can’t help it) and were fine over 2.5 days.

If the lady traveling to Lisbon said (what sounded like) ‘arrows’ instead of ‘your-o’s’ she might just be a native Portuguese speaker. It almost sounds like ‘arrows’ (to me) when they say ‘euros’.

I don‘t go to Germany all that often but I’ve never had a problem with using my bank card; I wonder if it jusr where you happened to be visiting or if it because European cards have chips in them. Many places (in Germany or elsewhere in Europe) do have a €10 minimum before they will let you pay by credit cards though.

Or maybe it’s because I’m so American?? 🤣. Although, my husband does speak fluent German. I know he sounds authentic because when he speaks in German they answer back in German. Whereas when I speak German, they answer back in English. Lol.
We were mostly in Munich and then drove to Hallstatt. We drove back to Munich from Vienna to return our rental car - so a lot of Bavaria.
I did Google and find a few articles about the outage we experienced in June. At first we thought the businesses were making it up and just preferred cash, but as we progressed on our trip we realized it was a real thing!

Next year is a trip to France and trying to decide if we should add another country. I would like Ireland or Iceland (probably flying Iceland Air) but my husband wants to add Germany (Bavaria).
I know I'm really late to the game, but Bavaria is a BEAUTIFUL area, and supposedly it's also a great place for beer if you like it, which I know you do. I'm not a beer drinker, but my husband enjoyed it! But there is a lot to see there!

That being said, while I've only seen Dublin in Ireland, I really enjoyed it. I'd like to see more of the countryside of it, though. I know someone who lives in Northern Ireland, and someone who lives in Ireland...I'd love to spend more time there, but I'd need a tour guide as there's no way I am driving on the left side of the road. I have to say, as an American, that's a point in favor of Germany...they drive on the right. But if you aren't the one driving, Ireland is a great choice. I don't think you can go wrong either way.

Is that the Christ Church Cathedral? The hotel where I stayed in November is just across the street from that. It was Jury's Inn, but I guess now it's called Leonardo's. It was SUCH a great location. I could walk everywhere! Walked to Temple Bar district, the Chester Beatty Manuscript museum, etc. It was fantastic. Nice hotel, too, and pretty decent food!

We don't use Credit Cards in the Netherlands. Almost no one accepts CC. You have to use cash or Debit card here. When we go to Germany, we use our debit cards, just like at home.
