You don't want to know, lol... I remember going a couple times when I was probably 5-10 in the late 70's early 80's... until my mom contracted a very rare skin disease from the water, and then we never went back! The only time I remember getting lost as a kid was at River Country, lol... but holy cow did I love it!

Can you tell us how your mom is doing now?

I have some pictures of the inside of River Country that were taken about 3 or 4 years ago. I'll try to get a chance to post them. It's very eerie to see it in it's current state.

She's fine now. It was some strange skin infection, that she had for about 5-7 years. I'll spell it how it sounds: Moo-ka-hab-er-man's disease... I think it's actually spelled Muchahabermans or something. It's pretty rare, like only a couple hundred people in the usa at the time...
Of course, she's one of those, if something weird is going to happen, it will happen to her, people :)

There are a couple different websites devoted to River Country. I do agree, it was a great day fun. Swim the day away and then to Pioneer Hall for make-it-yourself pizza. The only downside was, it was so small that you were shoulder to shoulder to the next guy. Last i had heard they were in there working. Nobody knows what they are doing. Maybe just making it more unaccessable. I also miss Discovery Island, not that i don't like AK but DI was more intimate.

Those pictures are of River Country, the original WDW water park, opened in the 70s, closed early ninties after Blizzard Beach opened. Everybody wanted the new exciting water parks and no one went to River Country, where it was a lake and some slides, there was a tire you swung on and you just swam in the lake and had fun. I went there with my family years ago quite often We would do Thyphoon Lagoon, then relax at River country. But even my kids perferred the exciting water parks, like most of the rest. Disney would never say what they will do with that River Country. In its day it was a great little water park.

Surprising that they just abandoned it. Would of thought disney would do something with it, even if its just get rid of entirely
