It is ashame the "City of the Future" fiber optic display is no longer available for visitors to enjoy in SSE. So I was wondering if anyone thinks it could be removed and displayed again in another location. I have several ideas but was wondering what others think first. To have that amazingly crafted set piece be there and not visible is a travesty. Anyone have a good idea where it could go to?

Who knows maybe the right person will read this and it will be relocated.

Well, I know it's not what you wanted to hear, but I still don't get why it can't be in SSE. My first choice would be to tear down those curtains and let that city shine. If I couldn't get my first choice, I think they could put it in one of those covered up windows near Buzz in the TTA area.

I agree but I am not optimistic about any of the displays coming back at SSE. I hope I am wrong though.

Up close and not under show lighting the dispaly looked just like what it was - a series of rather boring 2 dimensional set flats. Whilst obviously designed to be viewed at the right angle and distance from an SSE Omni they cold also have made a nice simple window display or similar, but being able to scrutinize it for longer than originally planned may dissappoint.

Your knowledge is amazing. Do you know what happened to the "City of the "Future" from WoM? (or was it Horizons? I don't remember.) Thanks.

wow i loved that one in world of motion, that was incredible wasnt it? Sadly though I think it was ripped out when they gutted World of Motion. As for SSE's future city, some are saying its sitting back there turned off behind the star curtains while others say its been torn out so I dont know.
But I agree I wish they could use it somewhere.

I used to ride just to see that display. It is terrible they don't archive or display stuff like that. I noticed they do have a display in the Contemporary of a design model from IASW (I think) from the World's Fair or DL. I find additions like that really add to the experience and it seems it should be standard procedure to save and display classic work like that.

I agree especially since they dont really create sets like that anymore.

I was just a sucker for the whole neon look it had. I mean, wow, the glow of it just wowed me going by. As someone said, with the lights on, it probably looked cheap, but then again, it wasn't made for the lights to be on. Sets like that are hard to find now days and if they did tear it out already - long live the fiber optic city from SSE! It will be missed.

The model you're talking about is a stylized model of the Tower of the Four Winds, which stood at the entrance to IASW during the 1964/65 World's Fair. After the Fair, the Tower was unfortunately destroyed as it was not able to be brought back to DL with the rest of the attractions. You can find photos of it by doing a simple Google search, it was truly a gorgeous structure.

I really enjoy the nostalgia of the display at the CR and would love to know the story of who had the foresight to save it. And especially how it got to be displayed where it is. Brilliant.

I tend to agree with the idea of putting it into a window on the TTA or along the tracks of the TTA inside Space Mountain. Ideally they should have saved the one from WoM and placed it there too. It would be amazing if the WoM and the SSE models joined the one that is already on the TTA. But I think Disney is erasing any reminders of Walt's vision for the original E.P.C.O.T.(which I understand to some extent). Maybe it could also be placed in "One Man's Dream" at the Studios. I think people would enjoy seeing it again.

Yea it's still in SSE, and it didn't look like it was in good shape when I saw it. I don't know if it is salvageable, unfortunately.

Soon to be relocated to the famed dumpsters behind Future World East - where Horizons and World of Motion met their doom.

You would think they would at least sell it to one of the resellers they use so they could put it on ebay. Pity.

Cuz if i managed to buy it, they know i'd sneak it into the park and super-glue it over one of the curtains in the descent before they knew what hit them.

Same again; when not UV-lit, the original amazing 5 story high WoM finale model just looked like a collection of chicken wire. Apart from the one or two models used in it I dare say it was easier just to pull it out along with the guts of the attraction.

Sad but true. We saw how Horizons was treated.
