"City of the Future" relocated???

Just an interesting thought:

With rumors of a new hotel going in, wouldn't it be kind of neat to build a hotel dedicated to the WDW of yesteryear? They could design display cases that could hold some of the models that were in some of the attractions. Old renderings and models of attractions past. Some of the seating could be old ride 'cars'. the more I think of it, the more I like the idea. Maybe it would only be for the Disney freaks though, huh? Still, there has to be a lot of material out there that could be re purposed this way.

Food for thought...

Same again; when not UV-lit, the original amazing 5 story high WoM finale model just looked like a collection of chicken wire. Apart from the one or two models used in it I dare say it was easier just to pull it out along with the guts of the attraction.

Sad but true. We saw how Horizons was treated.

Couldn't it just be "UV-lit" in a new display area. I think it could have been placed inside space mountain (post show or along the TTA track). Of course it sounds like it is too late now. Maybe it could be recreated from pictures/documentation. Only one "City of the Future" is left. Wonder how long until they remove that one?

Put the 'If you Had Wings Pods as chairs in the lounge :)

I am saddened to hear they have removed the city. I agree it probably would not look as well in regular light but the black lights and the neon made it look so cool.

They should move it to the post show of Space Mountain.

I kinda agree with this idea. How cool would it be after you get off of riding Space Mountain you enter the escalator tunnel with the lights turned low and you ride past the SSE future city in all it's blacklight and neon glow.

I just think it would be better than those dumb tv screens that you can see yourself on. What the heck is that about?

Martin...Was there ever anything displayed in the covered up windows on the right side of the TTA track in the Buzz corridor? Do you even know what is behind them currently?
Yep; the WEDway used to look down left and right onto If You Had Wings and later Dreamflight.

Pre 1989 the first window looked down and right onto the Caribbean Port section of the attraction, with Mexico in the distance. The second window looked down and right onto the "walking down the Jamaican" waterfall projection. The 3rd window, on the left just before the TTA today makes its right hand turn, looked onto the New Orleans scene.

For Dreamflight the first set of windows became a backlit "Dreamflight art" display, showing a charicature of the attraction using the same art that had been on its rehab wall. The second window showed the Paris at sunset scene, though the forced perspective didn`t work as well as being on the actual ride, and the 3rd window was blacked out from the inside - and is still like this today. When Buzz Lightyear opened in 1998, the Dreamflight cartoon became todays retro display and the second window looked onto the attraction as it still does.

Here`s 2 pics - the Dreamflight Paris angle and also the 3rd blacked out window, taken with a flash when only myself was riding the TTA:

martin, from buzz now and the third window, do you know what is in this space now (what part of buzz?). did buzz follow the Dreamflight omni path or was it alter?

It is ashame the "City of the Future" fiber optic display is no longer available for visitors to enjoy in SSE. So I was wondering if anyone thinks it could be removed and displayed again in another location. I have several ideas but was wondering what others think first. To have that amazingly crafted set piece be there and not visible is a travesty. Anyone have a good idea where it could go to?

Who knows maybe the right person will read this and it will be relocated.

Hey, they might bring it back!! SSE isn't officially opening until February!!

I am reviving this thread to find out if anyone has managed to dig up a photo or decent video of the City of the Future (think it was called Transcor) in the old World of Motion. Either as it appeared or in regular light. In fact regular light might be even better, as I really want to see how that was constructed. I am pretty interested in how they created that set.

A montage, and a flash-illuminated framegrab of the 80ft wide, 60ft high Centercore:

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

I have always been fascinated by architectural models, and particular city of the future models. And I have watched as they all slowly disappear.

I think it would be interesting to have a location somewhere in Epcot where you have all kinds of future models on display. Kind of like how One Man's Dream is a walk through exhibit, it would be interesting to see on on the world of tomorrow.

On the matter of the SSE one...It could EASILY return as your vid. screen shows a "Future City" right at that point where it used to be

Yeah a shame it went from great set piece to black space to animated on a small screen.:brick:

The one thing that bothers me about the city building itself animation is that the Spaceship Earth Geosphere is in the city. Kind of ruins the symbolism.
