I also can't see a difference on dimmed and I'm using internet explorer. Is it possible to have a blue background as before please?

i do like the new forum but i'm not a fan of the white background. i say this as i'm on a 22 inch widescreen and when you've been looking at it for a while, it does give you a bit of a headache. maybe in the future you could add a feature where we can choose our own background colour. i don't think it would be so bad if it were off white or a very light shade of blue. and i'm not a fan of a default font but i can live with that. i prefer what it used to be.
other than that i like the change. it's lovely and fast, icons are easy to understand, it's brilliant.

my only other concern is that the forum has aged me 89 years as it's set my birthday to 1900 instead of 1989 lol!

oh and i can't see a difference between the liquid and the liquid dimmed... they look the same to me and i'm on IE. i can see the difference between the default and dimmed, as it's the edges that change colour but when you have it on liquid dimmed you cant see the edges therefore there is no change. :(

oh are the disney themed smilies going to be added back on? they were awesome.

Both of the dimmed options reduce the white background behind the text to off-white instead of pure white. Dimmed also puts a gray background on the areas to the left and right of the text content area. Liquid dimmed stretches to the full width, so does not have these gray areas.

I just wanted to give my support for the new forums! Technically, it's a night-and-day difference with the old software. The boards seem much faster today. The ghost pages were incredibly annoying on all of the longer threads and now those are gone. The "media" button on the quick reply box here makes it seem like it will be easy to embed youtube videos like another board I frequent? Awesome! I could never figure out how to do it on the old system. It seems like this software remembers which threads you have actually read instead of marking everything read based on the time you last visited? That might be the best improvement. There were always times where I would start reading and walk away for a couple minutes, only to have the site count my return as a new visit. It actually kept me away from the site a little bit, because I would only visit when I had enough time to read everything. Now I can pop in and see what's new, so thank you! :)

Thanks for all your work and another vote for a blue background!

For those not seeing changes between the default and dimmed, you need to lower the contrast on your monitor. I saw no different until I adjust the monitor settings. Now it looks much better.

Also, for the liquid version I'm constantly having a horizontal scroll bar. It's like the page is about 5-10 pixels to wide for the browser (Firefox OS X). Here's a screenshot:

You can see the the right edge of the "new" button (the curly part) runs off the window and no matter how wide I make by browser window it stays like that.

I have not been able to recreate that. WHich version of Fire Fox is that? Can you try it in another browser on the same machine? Thanks

My avatar is cut off :(
Click on the Avatar to see the full version.

The new forum uses a square Avatar, whereas you uploaded a landscape version in the old forum. You can edit your image to make it square, and then upload it, and it will not be cropped.

I am getting the same thing in Safari (Version 5.1.5). It seems like the "New" flag wraps around the post and that tiny edge that is wrapped around gets not to be shown. And whatever way I enlarge the window, it always stays outside. Does not bother me, but looks not as perfect as you might want the site to look like! :)

Great, thanks for letting me know.

Are the rest of you with this problem seeing it fixed?

Steve, finally brought up the forums on my mobile phone. It is 10000x better than the old forums in either the normal or mobile skins. Has just the right amount of info, and posts are separated nicely. Thanks!
