Now boys, no need to get hot under the collar! ;) We're all free to express our opinions here, and to even support said opinion with what we consider to be valid arguments. As long as no one is being browbeaten to change, or ridiculed about voicing an opposing opinion, no one will be sent to his/her room. Now play nice. ;)

Otherwise, welcome.....buy me a drink.

Fievel, I hope no one gets the idea that the "Premium Members" have more clout around here just because they subscribe! Trust me, Steve does not give more weight to the opinions of those who contribute financially to the board!!! However, I will agree that the subscribers tend to be the frequent, and longer term, posters. He obviously would value suggestions from the "old timers", and would take their past history into consideration, if called on to moderate a disagreement.

I agree that we can be very welcoming, as long as new members leave their "old" baggage at the door.

Now how about some cookies? ;)

Fievel,

Wow, what a threatening posture you take in your first interaction with me. What in the world is the point to that?

Point by point.

1) My reference to being a "bad guy" on this board because it seems that the vast majority of folks here seem to think that WDW is perfect. That's fine. For the most part, so do I.

On another board, I am considered to be a wearer of "rose colored glasses" and an Eisner apologist. And that's for my centrist opinions. Here, though, it seems anything but ultrapositive is "bad guy." Get it now?

2) I have to realize everything costs money... Well, I do. I'm in charge of a $xxx million budget. Nothing gets spent without me knowing about it. I am a cost cutter by definition, that's what I get paid to do. I know very well what kind of pressure companies are under to control costs right now. The fine line that gets walked is between solid business decisions and deteriorating the guest experience. Just listen to the exit interviews at the stockholders meeting. They're concerned. Quite concerned.

By the way, the deep cuts and change in business philosophy started long before 9/11/2001.

3) Never, ever, ever said I didn't want anything to go away. They could shut down the Speedway tomorrow if there was a plan in place for a solid replacement. One that would be acted upon immediately after its removal. You seem pretty sure of an upcoming 20k lagoon replacement. We'll see.

I'm not really new around here, just to the boards. I've been sharing emails with Steve Freason for a couple of years now.

Sorry about your "mood", personally I try not to have them. Level headed and straight forward is my approach to life. I don't take things too seriously that don't warrant it. All I typed in my post was opinion, nothing further. Never took a shot at anyone and don't intend to.

The Magic has waned a little, but its due to a lack of clairity that will one day return. When actions are made for purely financial purposes without the creativity and innovation that the company is known for, you could say that the magic is tarnished a bit.

The weight of Disney's sterling reputation is what weighs them down and I'm grateful that they've continued with their standards.

The quick-fix moves like California Adventure are by far the worst actions in recent years. That park is wrong on so many levels and well, to be honest- matches California, a drudge on the nation, frought with faulty ideals and marketing appeal.

Many point out the 20K Lagoon with a reason for discounting Disney. I'm happy that they've waited rather than run forward with a cheap and easy route like they did in California.

Keep in mind that the basis for my opinion is of the Magic Kingdom in Florida. Fans of Disneyland would probably cry otherwise to this poll as their park has been hit harder than "ours".

Will the Magic return? Almost certainly. Why? Because it is more profitable and enjoyable...

Is this baggage?

Mr. Fievel! Glad to meet you!
Ok...a couple points here....you caught me in a bad mood...lucky you...
Ah! Does your mood often affect your posts? When I’m feeling out of sorts, or in a bad mood (very rare indeed!) I usually refrain from posting. But hey, that’s me. At least you give us fair warning, I suppose that’s something.
We have bad attitudes around here that'll make yours look cute as a kitten.
My oh my, the assumptions you make!! How can you possibly judge someone after just a couple posts in one day!!?? And how do you know your attitude will make him look like a kitten? He may blow you all away. (Although I do know him and you are probably right!!! But he won’t need you to prove it. He’s a kitten already!! ;)) I’m just curious as to how you could make that assumption (not to mention the threat!! Are you sure this is a friendly board?).

Anyway, now that the introductions and pleasantries are over, we can dive into the real meat of the issue! Disney!!!! :sohappy: (man I love Disney talk!!!)
You have to realize everything costs money. Disney can only spend money on development as fast as they get it.
Now are we talking as fast as the parks make it or the company as a whole? I know it’s a fine point, but it is very important to fully understand the concept if we want to avoid the apples and oranges thing. So, are you talking about the Disney Corporation or WDW specifically? I await your response.
After 9/11 everything changed. A lot of construction has slowed or stopped, and many upcoming projects were shelved until better economic times come.
Well, if I were indeed the “Disney” novice (that many seem to take me for) I’d have to defer to your assertion. But I’m not! Virtually all of the ‘projects’ were unaffected by the events of 9/11. Off the top of my head I’d say that only operational cuts were implemented (and in my opinion most of those were not needed).

Now I could be wrong (it sure wouldn’t be the first time), but at a glance, that’s my take. If you have some specific information about construction projects or plans being “shelved” due to that event, please let us know.
You want the parks to evolve and expand but you don't want anything to go away?
I realize that this was not directed to me particularly, but I want to assure you (for future reference) that this is certainly not my stance.
Trust me, the 20k lagoon will be used as soon as a good plan can be had for it. There have been a lot of theories for this area, but nothing has worked out.
My oh my!! I wish I had your faith! I really do. Where do you get it? How do you strengthen it? I used to have it, but so many “Disney” disappointments lately have left me… well… let’s say, lacking in the Ei$ner vision of things.

So, in the same vein, if I may, I’d like to ask you a question. What leads you to believe that they will do something to it? In other words, what recent corporate moves have they performed that allows you to think that they even care about the 20K site and/or guest satisfaction related to that site? Maybe your answer will reinstate my faith. But I really have to be honest with you. I doubt it!

I apologize for coming across very crass and mean....but I think we have people here trying to just cause trouble. I'm not going to stand for subjects that are just raised to cause trouble and in-fighting.

Your comments are very valid..and I agree with all of them.

I'll use an old analogy...this is our house, you don't come in and try and move the furniture around right away. It's only going to get you evicted. We closed out the PIS people once and we'll do it again.

And yes, I let my mood affect my posts, and no - I don't care what it makes me look like...especially to people who i don't care much about to begin with.

In short, you're not going to gain my respect with the way all you newbies are acting.

I thought all of us...Newbies were simply stating our opinions and on occasion bringing up relevent facts. As I've said elsewhere. None of us want to Rock the Boat the way Certain Other DISers may have in the past. We are looking for Debate and Fresh outlooks.

Things are getting curiouser and curiouser

I apologize for coming across very crass and mean....
Apology accepted!! Thank you!! :sohappy:
but I think we have people here trying to just cause trouble.
And you would be mistaken. Very mistaken.
I'm not going to stand for subjects that are just raised to cause trouble and in-fighting.
Hmmm. This one troubles me a bit. Since I’m new here, I think I need a little clarification. Are you a moderator? Did any of the posters do anything wrong? Specifically, I mean. Other than pose a viewpoint that appears different than what is normally presented here? I know all the ‘newbies’ and I can guarantee that the intent was ‘lively discussion’ about our (and I assume your) favorite subject: DISNEY!!!
We closed out the PIS people once and we'll do it again.
Another threat?!?! I thought we were past that. But since you brought up the DIS (that’s a “D” not a “P”, I’d appreciate it if you wouldn’t make that mistake a third time), we have very lively discussions on their News and Rumors board all the time! You should visit sometime. I think you will be very surprised at the cordial hospitality you would receive. We take great pains to accept each other and exchange ideas, concepts and information in a very polite manner. With a liberal dose of humor and good natured kidding thrown in for good measure. I was hoping (and rather excited) to find the same here. I hope I am not mistaken.

As for closing out the DIS people once before, I apologize for that. I was not involved. Some of the other boards on the DIS are rather clickish and… well… I can see that there might be a problem. You will not have the same problem with us!!
And yes, I let my mood affect my posts, and no - I don't care what it makes me look like...especially to people who i don't care much about to begin with.
You know, this is a hard enough medium to communicate through and you just keep making it harder. After that beautiful apology in paragraph one and your saying that you agree with everything I said a little later, you throw me for a loop with this apparent attack. Did I misread it or did you just say you didn’t care much about us? I really gotta tell you, you’re confusing the heck out of me.
In short, you're not going to gain my respect with the way all you newbies are acting.
OH BOY!! More confusion!! I really have to say, if this is the way you converse, I don’t know if I want your respect. But I’m trying. As for “the way you newbies are acting”, again, can you point to a specific? Other than, perhaps, a different take on Disney philosophy and management style? Or am I reading it wrong. Please explain, I really want to know!

OH! COME ON!!! I ran out of quotes to quote!!! You didn’t talk Disney at all. And I had some real good stuff there!!! That what I really want to do!!! That’s why I came here!!! How sad. :( (oh well. maybe next time.)

FINE. It seems that every single thred that you new guys (not a bad thing) post on turns into the same thing. Look, I haven't been here long either, but I'll tell you why I started coming to this site and then started using these forums. I first found that this site was full of info I did not know about. Being that I am from the midwest, I don't get to hear all of the smaller details on things that are happening in central Florida. Second, and much more simple, I come in here now to have fun reading others opinions about the parks and other things Disney, and then expressing my own. These types of conversations (above) are not fun for me and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. I certainly hope that if you guys stick around every thread you post on doesn't turn into this. I come here to talk and learn about Disney, not to argue about who's opinion is more important or who knows more about the company from a business standpoint.

Thanks,
Main Street USA

It certainly isn't my intention to ruin your expireance here. But, I feel I should call them as I see them, even if I am an Atypical Disney Fanatic.
