No, you SHOULD be fine. I think it takes longer than 4 years for those files to go away. I think it takes about 10 years or so. But he was right. CDs are not meant to be permanant...and we constantly tell people who we sell CDs to to make sure to back those up.

And it's really easy. Put the CD in the computer, and you can do two things. 1. You can put it on your computer and then burn it to DVD or 2. I believe you can possibly burn it straight to DVD. Which one would you rather do?

Hmm, I would probably burn it straight to a DVD. I'll be psyched if I can do it!

I thought these were fun:

Me too. I lost a whole bunch of my 2nd CP pictures back in 2006 when my computer crashed.:(

Yeah, it does stink. :(

I never realized the CD's wouldn't last either Nibbs - so should I back up my CD's every few years then?

Ok, here's what you do. Put the CD into the CD drive. When the window pops up for the CD with the files on it, select all the files you want, right click, and find "write to DVD" (If it's the same drive as your CD drive, it will say the name of your CD on it). Click on that. It will then transfer the files to the DVD drive. Once it's done transferring, take out the CD and put in a DVD, when it pops up, it will ask you if you want to write the files to DVD, click yes. That should do it. :D Any more questions, ask me.

Nope, it is not known how long CDs are supposed to last. So, make sure you either back them up periodically on another CD (I'd heard the same was true for DVDs too, so Kristin's info is news to me.) or put them in a place like Photobucket too, just for safe-keeping.

Hmm, ok, sounds like I can handle it. Hopefully DH sets up the new computer tonight and I can try it tomorrow!

And I'm just repeating what the "Staples guy" told me about the DVD's... :lookaroun
It is by no means firsthand knowledge!!

Yeah...well, I'd heard from my parents that it's unknown for DVDs too...so just to be safe, I'd back them up too periodically. But maybe less periodically then you would with CDs.
