Child meal refused at Mexico

Just wanted to pass on that a friends went to Epcot a week ago and one wanted to order a children's menu meal and the waiter would not let her. So she just shared and ate chips. Usually adults ordering kids meals isn't a HUGE deal. Maybe they're changing. Maybe the waiter just wanted to stick it to them. They still rang up 2 adult meals. 3 "adult" drinks and 2 desserts. If the waiter was worried about having a higher bill to get a bigger tip, wouldn't they be happy to add on the $7 kids meal?

But then again, maybe they may be sticking to the ages on the kids meals much harder than they used to?

Just figured I'd pass on the note.

I would be asking for a Manager.

Often there are adults who simply can't find anything appealing on the adult menu [particularly at San Angel Inn, where there's a lot of spice in everything]. Not allowing someone to order something you already serve is nuts!

That's usually the reason for whenever I order off a kids menu...I can't handle too much spicy food. And sometimes, you just gotta have that mickeyroni! :animwink:

I had weight loss surgery in October and I have a signed card from my doctor that I am allowed to order off of the kid's menu. I agree with other posters, you should have asked for a manager.

Just another reason for me to never eat there again.  Kidding, we just don't like it because of rude service & the food was not that good at all. In your friends case, I would have asked for the manager too. :)

Okay do not attack me here but I have been in the restaurant business for over twenty years and there is a valid reason for this. Most restaurants price kids meals at or a little above cost. The reason that they often refuse to serve an adult a kid meal is because of that very reason. Most places will explicitly state it on the kid's menu that only kids can order from that menu. If there is a medical reason then I can see an exception. :)

The thing is that this has never been the practice at WDW. I can see it other places. But not there.

Perhaps it was just something that was never enforced. I am not sure because it has been a while since I have been there with any kids. I also cant really speak about Disney because I am not sure how they price things, etc...

Hey! A kid's meal is for kids - we all know this - usually 10 and under or 12 and under. I'm a small person and rarely eat my whole dinner, but I know I can't pass for a KID so I order off the ADULT menu.

It's not like the KID menu says "for kids and adults who are not too hungry today"

 DUH

I completely agree with you. Most kids meals are priced super cheap so that parents with families can save a little with children who don't like adult food yet and won't eat a larger portion.

If adults start ordering off the kids menu more frequently, it's just going to end up driving up the prices for parents with kids, parents that depend on those cheaper options.

And besides, it's annoying. Adults should just order off the adult menu or get an appetizer instead of a meal.

YEP! :)

I go to Biergarten for the buffet and I know I don't eat anywhere close to the amount of money I paid but I am an ADULT and that's just life in the fast lane. Or in the OLD LANE. Whatever!

:ROFLOL:I don't think I could be a waiter with someone complaining about not getting to eat off the kids menu when they were adults. I'd for sure lose it on someone.

What part of KIDS MENU was confusing? Habla Englis?

I agree with alot of you. Kids food is priced cheaper, because it is smaller portion and it is done so parents afford to eat out with the kids. I was in the biz several years ago. The offer that was made to those that could not find something they like is to make an "adult" plate of kids food. Of course, that comes with an adult price.

My MIL always tries to order off the kids menu. It is quite embarassing. It states 12 (or less) and under.

I also think that they should have asked to speak with a manager. Disney restaurants are generally extremely accomodating.

I order from Kids' Menus all the time. It isn't because I am cheap or not that hungry - the stuff on the Kid's side of the menu is usually tamer for my stomach. I have a stomach condition and am quite the picky eater because of it.

If the issue is spicy vs. not so spicy then ask the spices to be taken out. If the issue is portion size then only eat what you want and leave the rest. A children's menu is a children's menu for a reason.
If I were choosing a restaurant and I previewed the menu and the only thing I wanted to order was on the Children's menu, I think i'd find a different restaurant.

I am with you on this one. I am a vegetarian, and my wife is like you a lite-eater, but we still pay full price for buffets. The cost of the buffet is usually driven by the expectation of the diner to eat fairly large amounts of meat. Regardless, we don't get a discount. (And we continue to eat at buffets:))

Kids menu prices are designed to allow families with children to eat at a restaurant at a reasonable total bill. Like the others have said, ordering just an appetizer etc, is always an option for a light-eating adult.
