Character Dining Options

I am planning a trip down to FL in Aug and we are passing thru Orlando area. Unfortunately we don't have enough time to visit a park.

But I would like to stop by WDW and have lunch/dinner at one of the restaurants that offer character dining. Any suggestions? We are 2 adults and DS, 20 months.

TIA

I would try 1900 Park Fare or Chef Mickey's for Character Dining in the resorts. Also 'Ohana might be a good bet too (no characters though).

There's also Cape May Café @ Disney's Beach Club Resort for an "all-you-care-to-eat" seafood buffet.

Or Garden Grove @ Walt Disney World Swan Resort

All the other character meals are in the parks and so require park admission

I could be wrong, but I didn't think the characters were present at Cape May for dinner.

I have only done 1900 PF for breakfast (will be trying dinner in August), but we did Chef Mickey's for dinner last trip. The character interation at Chef Mickey's was great, but the food left a lot to be desired. I've heard mixed reviews on the food at 1900 PF dinner and Garden Grove, so if it's really characters you want...it's really a matter of - do you want the fab 5? do you want Cindy, the stepsisters, etc.? or Rafiki, Timon, Goofy & Pluto?

Some good WDW restaurants that are not in a park are:
1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian Resort
Ohana at the Polynesian Resort
Whispering Canyon at the Wilderness Lodge
Chef Mickey's at the Comtemporary Resort

You are right...the characters are only there for breakfast.

I would suggest Chef Mickey's so you can see Mickey and friends. Or Ohana.

If you are a fan of Pooh and friends - you can do 1900 Park Fare - you also see Alice, Mary, and the Mad Hatter.

I am not sure what meal you are looking for. Passing through, i'm assuming lunch.

Character Dining at 1900 worth it compared to seeing the Characters in the parks?

The disneyfoodblog.com just posted a discouraging review about the size and noisiness of 1900 Park Fare. I have read positive trip reports about the Stepsisters and I really want to do 1900 Park Fare for dinner as a result along with Akershus and Cinderella's Castle.

Anyone have any negative experiences with 1900 Park Fare to share? TIA

I am not sure what they could have to say negatively about the size, but we had plenty of room for our party of four even with my wife and I being fairly fluffy. There was plenty of room to walk through the restaurant. As for the noise....Well what do you expect when you gather several families with excited young children together? We did a BUNCH of character meals on our trip last summer and to me 1900 was the most civilized with Chef Mickeys and Ohana being the worst. FYI we also ate at Crystal Palace and Tusker House.

I would say with a 20 months old, Chef Mickeys might be the best bet! It has all great characters! We always do it as a first night dinner to get everyone pumped!! Granted its not the best meal but you are paying for the experience in my opinion!

We have never done 1900 Park Fare but will be this August for my daughters 7th bday. I have only heard great things! And at any character meal there is going to be some noise!

Our family loved both the dinner and breakfast at 1900 Park Fare. It may be possible to eat with Lilo, Stitch, Mickey and Pluto at Ohana around 11 but it would be breakfast food, we loved that as well. We did not like the food at Chef Mickey's and it was quite expensive to just go there and have a drink!
