The issue with current leadership isn’t that they can’t build good rides - they obviously can - but that they can’t build good theme park lands as a whole without a creative visionary driving it (Lasseter, Cameron, etc.). Compared to the legacy castle park lands or hell, even World Showcase, there’s no “there” there with these new lands. Galaxy’s Edge, Toy Story Land, Pixar Pier, Avengers Campus… none of these are places I enjoy hanging out. They’re just places to run from ride to ride without ever really having a sense of place. Compare that to Adventureland, where I could sit and people watch with a Dole Whip and feel perfectly entertained.
Part of me thinks that the leadership isn’t inherently anti-park (they are definitely spending money on rides - half a billion to make what is effectively a new, IP-based Space Mountain for crying out loud)… it’s just that they fundamentally misunderstand themed entertainment and what fans want. I’d bet these non-creative MBAs think fans genuinely want to play video games in Avengers Campus. And hey, maybe they do… maybe we’re the idiots…
