In general, yes, but even in the latter half when Eisner went off the rails he was still more interested in actual creativity in the theme parks than Iger has ever been. There's no chance Expedition Everest would have gotten the green light with Iger in charge.

I remember back when Eisner did all the intros for Wonderful World of Disney in the 80s and 90s - it may have just been a great act, but he always came across as genuine and seemed to enjoy the character and park interactions.

It certainly shows in hotels like the Grand Californian and the AKL versus crappy DVC towers like VGF, BLT and the Riviera.

Chapek is going to be lucky if he can survive until 2022. Thanks to Iger's puchases and building Disney's streaming service, the company is in the best shape it's ever been in. Disney's streaming services will free up more than enough capital to expand any and all divisions. Now all that is left for Chapek to do is listen to Josh D'Amaro. If Chapek is smart the company's market cap can reach $1 trillion in 2025, and all he has to do is let the streaming work and Josh do whatever he wants.

Iger’s tenure is just a continuation of the Eisner years.

Word. I wish he'd just left the company outright at the beginning of the year instead of only briefly leaving.

Iger's greatest accomplishment is that he makes latter half Eisner look like a good CEO. He's actively ruining the company.

The first thing Chapek needs to do upon becoming CEO is kicking out Iger. Preferably before he can destroy the Splash Mountains.

Chapek *is* CEO.

And mentions of Splash going forward have been done while he is CEO.

Didn't Iger take back his CEO duties back in May or something? And isn't he the one who has the big hatred for Song of the South that's a major component in the retheme?

And if Iger isn't the CEO anymore, why is he still there?

Iger is Executive Chair of the Board of Directors. He is due to leave in December of 2021.

Chapek is CEO.

Iger stayed on the board to help with the transition to a new CEO... whom he hand-picked... and is in sync with leveraging IP... and has been tacitly approving what Iger and D'Amaro and their Press Releases have been saying about Splash's retheme.

Not to mention that the entire Board of Directors could have intervened at some point and shut that all down... but it seems they're also tacitly in agreement.

The talk of "Iger taking over" was at the start of the pandemic when really big decisions, like shutting down the parks and who, if any, to lay-off had to be made. With a brand new CEO, investors could get skittish. As much as some theme park enthusiasts dislike Iger, investors love him. And so, the investors needed to be mollified to avoid a run on Disney stock. Since then, Chapek has taken over quarterly meetings without Iger and has clearly been the one in charge.

Iger's role is to focus on creative endeavors (read that to mean he's working with all their studio content creators to make Disney+ attractive and profitable).

Be careful about thinking that something you don't want to happen actually won't because of wild assumptions and theories and speculation and rumors that it won't happen.

This is the "Disney surely wouldn't..." argument which has no basis in reality unless there is actual evidence they're not going to do it. So far, there is absolutely zero evidence that Splash isn't going to get the retheme. The retheme has been mentioned in the middle of a pandemic, so, that means any financial difficulties caused by the pandemic isn't stopping it.

DisTwitter loves Iger. He's "apparently" the best thing to ever happen to that company. Even better than the brothers who created the company.
Not if you listen to those who say that his pivot to China, streaming, acquisitions of Pixar/Marvel/Lucasfilm/21CF, and focus on IP is driving the company "away from Walt".

Even though Walt smoked his lungs to death and suppressed unionism within the workforce.

I'm so glad y'all are resisting an ambassadorship appointment so you can keep him around for another year!
In fairness Iger's probably gonna be gone before December of next year anyway.

I think this is partially true to the extent that Eisner was interested in original ideas in a way Iger has never been. Iger does give the impression of someone who doesn't quite get why the parks are as popular as they are, but eventually discovered they were gold mines and could be used to promote all the IPs he's more interested in cultivating.

On the other hand, Eisner became fairly indifferent to quality by the end of his term while Iger seemed more sensitive to not opening something that was actively embarrassing for the Disney brand. While I don't think Expedition Everest would have been green lighted under Iger, I also don't think Walt Disney Studios Paris would have been green lighted under Iger. To take another turn, the latest hotels that have been approved for WDW show a complete misunderstanding for the business they're in that likely reflect Iger's disconnect.
