Changes to private dining hours at Walt Disney World Resort hotels

People are arguing on other people's preferred dining habits and missing the point. One of the perks of staying at a deluxe resort is quality room service available throughout the day and night. They have taken away a significant piece of service that used to be a benefit of staying there and replaced it with nothing. People should be upset by another downgrade in service. Yes, you can order a pizza until 2am or take an Uber to McDonalds but sometimes, after walking around all day, you want to crawl into bed and have somebody bring you a $20 cheeseburger.

To be accurate though at least at CR the late night menu didn’t include a cheeseburger. It was a few salads and a sandwich or 2. I don’t know what was on the menu at GF or YC so maybe they had more options.

It was hypothetical. You can always find something, its the luxury and convenience of it while on vacation.

How often did you use it? I’m asking seriously, because although I do believe that in room dining is extremely popular, I don’t think the hours of 2am-6am are that big of a deal.

Also, from what I remember, pizza was a different service.. not part of the standard room service menu anyway.

Fair enough. It is a loss of a service. For me personally I had little interest in ordering a salad after 2am but I can understand it’s a loss for someone else who would order that. Now a cheesburger...that I might be convinced to order:)

Pizza is more widespread. You can order at other resorts that don’t have traditional room service as well.

If it’s pizza someone wants, they can have it delivered from anywhere. The dining menus are more resort specific, but how many people are ordering sushi at 4am?

I guess you could have a pizza delivered from somewhere else too. I was talking about the Disney offered dining. My understanding is that at the value and moderate resorts (except for CS) and SSR and OKW instead of full room service offer in room pizza delivery which included drinks (including beer) and some sides like salads and wings. At the deluxe resorts and CS they have full room service (breakfast, all day and late night menus) and the all day menu includes pizza along with a bunch of other things. I think since CS has a convention center they offer full room service even though it’s a moderate resort. This change really only impacts the late night hours at the 3 deluxe resorts that had 24 hour room service. As far as I know the rest is unchanged.

I order room service at least twice per stay at Disney.. resort dining is also a huge part of my decision making. (Like I said, I’d be first in line to yell and complain if it was taken away.)
I’ve also ordered Pizza Hut (I prefer their pizza to Disney’s) while watching an OSU game when staying at Poly.

2 of the 3 monorail resorts have 24 hour restaurants.

So basically, the Contemporary is the only one that is seeing a major change. You can still eat at the other 2, so this ‘what if I’m hungry’ stuff isn’t making sense.lol

Here’s a tip for CR travelers..or anyone who doesn’t want to leave the room, but must eat between the hours of 2am-6am- buy something at the QS and keep in your refrigerator. :)

You're missing the point. Room service was a luxury item, a service that was offered at a high price in exchange for the feeling of being pampered. Yes, you can schlep to the main building for food but after a long day at the park, sometimes it's nice to order a snack and have it delivered.

At least twice in a week? Also, pizza is available at limited hotels and shutters relatively early also. However, I don't expect an upgraded Motel 6 (aka Pop Century and All-Star hotels) to have 24-hour offerings on par with a resort that costs 3-4x the price.

Which you can still do... unless MK is now open til 2am.

It’s a change, but if a service is underutilized then it make sense to cut it.

I can see this point. It’s not really cost cutting, more like eliminating an unprofitable upcharge. It’s like any of the other upcharge type events. If people stop going to the dessert fireworks party they will eventually cancel it. People who enjoyed that event will be upset, but they won’t continue to hold it if it’s not making money.

But they're not true luxury resorts. That's why this isn't surprising (to me)

I see what’s going on.

This is just away for Disney to dump their supply of premade “brown box” hurricane meals they must have a large inventory of. Those peanut butter sandwiches, apple, carton of milk and cookie should not go to waste!

For another terrible display of budget cuts so executives can get bigger bonuses, I will be taking a knee during the afternoon parade with my family this weekend, our arms will be interlocked, and our heads will be held high.

Jimmy Thick- Colin who?

Just curious, what do you think they should have though? There’s many included activities, the amenities are great, the convenience is wonderful. I think they fit a hotel description of a ‘deluxe category’. The only thing I would add is all of the deluxe resorts should have bathrobes in the rooms and cocktail servers at the pools.

The number of people who will be impacted by not having the ability to have room service delivered for 4 hours, in the middle of the night, has to be so slim.
There’s not any bars, casinos, clubs etc open that late on property...the 24 hour makes sense at resorts who have any of those.

Do we know that delivery stops at 2, as in - you can’t place an order at 1:45? Or does ordering stop at 2?

Random thoughts....The level of service mainly. Not being able to call the real Front Desk directly. Spotty housekeeping. The pools are a bit too small for the number of rooms. No wait staff at the pool areas. Pool areas often look very sloppy, they don't have enough attendants picking up the used towels throughout the day and such. You should be able to eat dinner at the basic restaurants if you are staying there without reserving it 180 days in advance. I find that the lobbies often feel like Grand Central Station due to the enormous amounts of people who come for ADRs at the Deluxes.

Just for the record... today is just an ordinary day. No holidays, no special events, no Halloween Party, nothing. A weekday to boot. And Magic Kingdom has extra magic hours until 1 a.m. tonight. Given the average wait times to get a bus at park closing, plus travel times, I suspect that means that a lot of people will be getting back to their resorts at 2 a.m. or later.

Now, I'm not saying this is the case every single night. But when folks can be at Magic Kingdom until 1 a.m. on a random October evening, I'd say it's pretty darn likely that those arguing hardly no one ever gets back to their rooms at 2 a.m. or later are mistaken.
