Changes to character meet and greets at Disney's Animal Kingdom

Certain characters just belong in Animal Kingdom. Timon, Rafiki,Terk,Baloo,King Louie,Tarzan,Flik,Atta,Pocohantas,Ratcliffe,Koda & Kenai, Thumper & Miss Bunny, and also the Up characters fit in. I would love to see more Bug's Life characters as regulars in the park.Too bad more character are lost then gained. I would much rather see more disney themed attractions in Animal Kingdom than Avatar Land.

I have thought for some time that a nice expansion for Animal Kingdom would be some sort of "Critter Country" (no, not like the area at DL) with some modest dark rides and meet and greets (plus the requisite food and merchandise) featuring Disney animal characters. Especially ones that don't have much play elsewhere in the parks: Bambi (and friends), Dance of the Hours from Fantasia, Mr. Toad (yes, they could bring that back), Lady and the Tramp, 101 Dalmations, Jungle Book, Pocahontas, Brother Bear or even some of the less famous ones like The Aristocats, Robin Hood, The Rescuers, Oliver, The Great Mouse Detective, The Fox and the Hound, etc. There's a lot to build off of even with avoiding the mainstream stuff already around at AK like Lion King and Nemo. I just picture a Fantasyland style area but with an animal/forest/jungle theme which would fit in with having a bunch of meet and greets for rarer characters.

I still think that the elimination of characters is a sign of upcoming Avatar work...

You are right to make that inference. Character downsizing, characters moving into a store. Disney does not lightly give up profit-making stores. They would only be doing that if they have no other alternate... such as the closing of the Camp Minnie Mickey area. I think this is the Fort Sumter of the Avatar construction.

Are we 100% sure the store wasn't underperforming? I've gone in it maybe once since Everest opened, taking the longer extended loop around the park. It's curious it comes on the heels of the ice vest wars, and that something else wouldn't be the first sign.

Well, I am sure the choice of which store to close did come down to performance. Perhaps I am being optimistic, but something tells me this is all prep-work.

Great points! Hope this means we are going to be seeing movement in that area soon.

From what I hear, the kiosks at Camp Minnie-Mickey are going bye bye and the new location at Beastly Bazaar will be the replacement for them.

Avatar is taking over Camp Minnie-Mickey.

I'm not defending this move in any way, but it should be noted that they have extended the operating hours of the Russell and Dug Meet and Greet. When they were introduced they followed Flik's old timeline, and only greeted until around 2:30, they now meet almost all day, until at least 5:00-7:00pm based on park closing.

Has anyone heard anything on what's going on at Beastly Bazaar? I thought the new meet and greet there was supposed to open this month sometime.

God bless the "Ignore" button.

I don't think they're in any major rush. The M&G at Camp is still open, and it seems that they don't need to evict its occupants yet, since Avatar is (allegedly) looking rocky.

So, if Pooh and compant are moving to the CMM space, what is going to replace Pooh? It would be nice if some additional characters were added to the roster, especially given the large number of animal characters that Disney has

The article says that Donald and Daisy are moving to the Discovery Island boat dock

Is that the current location for Pooh? I thought the boat dock was near the Nemo theater.
Yes, the Discovery Island boat dock is the current location for Pooh, Tigger and Eeyore. The entrance is across from Flame Tree BBQ.

Any real reason why they simply seem to just be switching the locations for Donald and Daisy and Pooh and the gang? It's nice to see that Daisy will be returning to the park though! But is that whole brand new location really going to only have Mickey and Minnie?
