Changes to character meet and greets at Disney's Animal Kingdom

If this is a summer thing, that makes some sense, but this is also part of the problem with this park. As of next year, it will be the only park without a substantial indoor meet and greet.

Offerings at the Animal Kingdom are so limited it seems ill conceived that any type of entertainment like this be cut.

It's already the only park without one. Town Square Theater at MK, Epcot Character Spot, and Animation at DHS. But if the heat is the problem, just add characters at RPW, at the Nemo or LK theaters between shows, or in Tusker House to compensate.

Just cutting without any compensating improvements...

As a former costuming CM at DAK, I can just say that Meeko and Timon are kind of pains in the , at least they were for me. I don't know about Timon's "friends", but I did see a couple of Flik's "friends" who were "unfriended" due to gaining weight/body changes. It's a sad fact, but it happens.

Seeing as Poca is the only face in DAK, I think it would suck if she were to leave.

Very, very upsetting. I do hope that this is remedied soon, I too like finding characters who aren't the Fab 5. I wish I had my photo taken with Thumper and Meeko last time I went.
Character interactions are a large part of the disney experience, why do they insist on cutting them, especially at AK. It's already considered a half day park, so they should be adding content, not removing it.

I went ahead yesterday and e-mailed Robert Iger about my concerns about the diminishing characters around the parks. This afternoon my cell phone rings and it is somebody from Robert Iger's office. She tells me Mr. Iger read your email and thanked me for sharing my feelings with them. I told her pretty much that my son who is 2 doesn't have the same oppertunities that my daughter who is only 6 did at his age. That every trip we go back another character is gone and that they are not replaced. She said Mr Iger would be forwarding my email to those in charge of character appearences. I expected to get an email back, but never a phone call. Funny thing I did not give my cell phone number in my email. Glad to see such a quick responce from his office. I can only hope we see results in the parks when we return in August.

They probably think you guys are crazy. If Bob Iger is actually reading the emails, all he is thinking is about the Belle m&g going into Fantasyland, Ariels Grotto opening up, closing Snow White for a huge Princess M&G, Town Square theater, Petes silly sideshow, all the money they are paying the characters to be in each country around World Showcase, plus the Character Spot in Future World, let alone the random smattering of characters out and about at DHS and AK.

The only issue I have is I think they should have more variety to the characters. Theres so much more than just the Fab 5 and the Princesses.

My guess is they're moving the meet & greets into an underperforming merchandise space that is conveniently outside of CMM in preparation for Avatar or whatever will eventually take over that space.

New character meet-and-greet location to open this fall

At Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park, a new indoor, air-conditioned character meet-and-greet location is in development that will open this fall. To prepare for this new experience, Beastly Bazaar, a merchandise location on Discovery Island, will close Aug. 12 to be rethemed.

my first thought was that they are starting to clear out Camp Minnie Mickey.

Yeah - surprisingly more people were on the bandwagon to start writing letters to everyone and their mother but then you find out this and seems pretty quiet....

Looks like this is the case. It appears that all signs pointing to the Avatar location being there are starting to come through. Great news for me and the other 5 of us that are pumped about the Avatar expansion

I don't care for Aerosmith but I like their coaster.

If Avatar has cool rides, people will still be happy... :)

I think we can all agree that Camp Minnie-Mickey is on it's way out...Whether it's Avatar that replaces it or not, I'm no expert, but that seems to be up to speculation...
