Change of BEDDING in Rooms

I am quite concerned that this hypersensitivity to germs may bring about the supergerms that are resistant to all antibiotics and so on...
I am a teacher and follow policy that requires washing down everything with disinfectant and offering hand sanitizer, but worry about our future immune response!:(

UUUGGGGHHHHH!
I use the comforter.
I use the phone.
I use the glasses.
I use the carpet...bare feet no less.
I shower, without standing on a washcloth.
I am still alive and I have never gotten sick from a hotel room...I'm barely ever sick as it is.

I guess if you have complications from a disease...a weakend immune system or are prone to illness it makes sense to be this neurotic but otherwise...

C'mon people...let's relax ok.

I lick the door knobs because I crave adventure!

I cannot agree more! I mean, it's one thing to be aware of significant threats, but it is a whole other thing to get so hyper-sensitive that you really are counter-productive.

It is true that we need an allowance for a certain amount of germs to keep your immune systems strong. And it is also true that overuse of anti-bacterial agents will lead to germs that are resistent to them when they are needed.

Anybody walk barefooted in the grass or on the beach, or, for goodness sakes, in the OCEAN? Oh my goodness... how do you stand it?!! There are so many microbial animals there!! :lookaroun

I have also seen Housekeeping delivering comforters in plastic bags to rooms being cleaned. I don't know if the bedding had been dry cleaned, laundered, or if they were just stored in the bags, but I assumed that it meant there was some type of schedule for changing them.

When you think of all the hands you have followed when you clinch the safety bars of Splash Mountain, EE, RnRC, Cindy's Carousel, etc, etc, etc, it's amazing that every guest doesn't get sick.

IMHO this thing called the human body that we're all wrapped in is pretty awesome :dazzle:.

I just do a quick check for bed bugs and spray some lysol on the obvious things and go about my business. I walk barefooted and take showers without standing on a washcloth. I just couldn't imagine enjoying my vacation if I was so worried about whether or not my resort was germy. Rest assured that it is germy, as are the parks, restaurants, airport, buses, etc.

I am more worried about all the hand rails in the parks last year we took our own small sanitizer bottles and used it to the nines. This year I think I will carry packets of handi wipes to wipe down the bars to hold onto. it only takes a minute. I would rather do that than worry who sat here before me with feces on their hands or picket their nose. Last year I WAS sick all winter long and credit it to shopping carts. This year I have not touched a cart without wiping it down raw. not one illness yet. ??? about comforters... what do you think are on them and I do not mean to be graphic, but if you think that something is on them then it must be something you have done yourself or saw someone else do. We personally do not go out of our way to dirty a comforter. Its the sames sitting on a chair in one of the Disney restaurants after someone just left. Just not sure what that is all about. i always check them and if no stains are on them I feel ok about it. Little fabreeze and lysol will cure anything.

We're going to WDW Nov12-20. Given all this? I'm starting to develop a plan....

We're going to get in queue's, then start fake coughing & sneezing... with any luck? All the people in front of us will leave :)

I don't need to fake the cough, I get chronic bronchitis so I have a really good chest cough that I can dredge up when I need to. I actually used it to make a point about someone who was walking right in front of me on the way towards the AK gate from the bus bays in June who lit up a pipe. I always get people looking at me strangely and moving away when they hear me 'coughing' :ROFLOL:

I'm not OCD or a germaphobe by any means...I believe we were given an immune system for a reason.

But, because of the H1N1, this year I brought Clorox wipes. When we got to our room, I wiped down the remote, the countertops, the doorhandles. Made an extra effort to wash my hands more, avoid touching hand railings and tried to keep my hands away from my face. Used Purell here and there.

Must have done some good because neither my sister nor I caught anything down there. I leave the comforter on the bed but I don't pull it up near my face..I also don't care about the carpets. You should see what I occasionally get covered in at work(I'm an OR nurse)..maybe that's why I'm not that about it.:ROFLOL:

I go to a university that has a hotel administration school. One of my hotelie friends used to like the impart some of things she had learned onto us. One of the fun facts: generally, at most hotels, the comforters get changed once every 6 months.

Though I do agree with those who are saying that there are more important things to worry about than germy comforters

This thread is tooooo funny!
I also was born with an immune system, and it seems to work pretty good.... I think in America we are becoming a bit paraniod. We probably come into contact with just as much, if not more germs at a wal-mart or say on the PLANE in a confined area where we all SHARE the RECYCLED air......
live a little, breathe deep......watching to much news can scare you- it does me:lookaroun

For me, its more about the grossness factor than the germs.

As someone else said, ignorance is bliss. If you actually wittnessed a sweaty, stinky stranger come into your hotel room and lay down on your comforter after a long, hot August day in the park....or if you saw a couple doing...ummmm...."something" on top of your comforter, I wonder how many of you would go lay down on top of the comforter when these people got up?
Or if you saw a parent changing a poopy diaper of a baby or toddler on your comforter without putting some sort of cloth underneath them, would you lthen go lay your head on the spot where the baby's bum was?

These things, among others, happen every single day. It is just gross. So I take the comforter off...not because I am afraid I will catch some dreaded disease, but because I think it is gross. I don't like the idea of laying on top of a comforter that has repeatedly had strangers bodily fluids on it without being cleaned.

I also wear socks or flip flops in the hotel room, but usually only after I've showered at night. Again, not because I think my feet are going to get germs on them...but because I think it is gross. Wear white socks for just a few minutes while walking around in a hotel room....then look at the bottom of your socks and they will be BLACK. I don't know about you, but when I wear socks ALL DAY in my own home, they are not black on the bottoms.

And yes, I know the parks are filthy and that you will come into contact with all sorts of gross things while there...but comparing that to your hotel room is like comparing apples to oranges. I expect to get dirty in the parks, which is why I take a shower upon returing to my room each evening. But after I am nice and clean, I really don't want to wallow in or walk on other people's grime all night.

I'm amazed I'm still alive. I always walk around barefoot and never take the comforter off the bed. Spent over 200 nights at Disney Resorts and I'm still here to talk about it.

All you need to do i take the comforter and pull it back and see if any wet type stains are there. They would leak thru if it were wet at any given time. Also do you look thru their windows to see that they are _______or what they are doing? I am guessing that most rooms are full of familys and that just would not be going on. Plus most of us are not that crude. If we are all talking about it then we are the ones NOT doing any of this. Nothing wrong with cleaning remotes handles etc. I do that at Wal mart not going to touch those sticky handles. I have gotten alot less sick this year by wiping down the carts. I am so glad wal mart finally started having those wipe boxes to use. Just good practice.

The hotel toilets gross me out so peeing in the shower is an acceptable option, right? I aim for the drain, out of respect of others.

hahaha...this thread made me quite thoughtful about my own upcoming trip in december. Wonder if I should purchase bubbles for my kids...I guess I don't worry about that stuff much. I carry hand sanitizer and I'm certainly a hand washer but otherwise, I don't sweat it much. Maybe because like the other nurse, I see so much at work that the comforters are the least of my concern.:)
