Cat in the Hat ride = Butchered

This was one of my favorite kiddy rides ever...it went from room to room spinning wildly. Now, it is not even worth riding. It barely spins at all, leaving you to stare at the decent but not overwhelming theming throughout the ride. Apparently some kid freaked out, crawled under the lap bar and was thrown from the ride. Of course the parents probably sued. So instead of adding doors or new restraints they reduced the spinning down to almost nothing?? Terrible solution. I don't understand how a ride can run for over 10 years with no incident, then have this happen.

Rumor is, they are gradually returning more and more spinning to the ride... the g-forces just won't be as intense.

I rode 2 days ago and there was a fair amount of spinning. It just wasn't as strong.

Exactly...it used to have a very torque-heavy pull every time it rotated, yanking you to the side. They have really toned that down so now it is just gentle motions and a couple slow spins. I was pretty bored.

Haha yeah that ride is insane. We thought it would be a nice relaxing ride kind of like Peter Pan is something and that it was NOT!!

Yeah, I went on it with my 7 year old daughter last October thinking it would be really tame, and I nearly tossed my cookies. :hurl: I actually had to sit down with my head in my lap for 10 minutes afterwards because I felt so ill. And I'm fine when she spins me wildly on the Tea Cups at WDW. I'll never go on that ride again!

Trust me you will have no problem on it now. I have to admit it was pretty intense the old way, so I guess more than a few people complained.

I knew the last time I rode it (late July) it didn't whip around like it use to. Darn that feeling of whiplash was what made that ride unique. It's still a great ride but not the same without it. I hope it comes back.

The Cat in the Hat needs its spinning reinstated ASAP... there's some gentle turns and maybe 3 slow spins throughout the ride currently. This completely destroys the manic pace the original profile had going for it, and moreover makes the "chaos" spinning scenes completely boring and lifeless. Apparently the kid flew out somewhere near the spinning tunnel, as that feature has been completely removed for the time being (it was a blank wall over the 4th weekend). That should hopefully be reinstalled, with spinning put back into place, soon.

Wasn't there a case of a small child sliding out from under the restraints and getting spun out of the ride vehicle back in April 2010?

I must confess I did not. Reducing the spinning however is a quick fix. To do what you purposed would require a shutdown of the attraction. For all we know your plan is in the works.

Nothing would have to be shut down. They would alter one vehicle at a time, not all at once.

I haven't been on the ride since the spinning was cut, but hopefully it's back the way it was meant to be by the time I'm out there next. I hate seeing things get neutered due to guest stupidity.

That would great providing that every lawyer quit their practice. If they allowed a condition to continue that they knew could be potentially dangerous, even if guest stupidity caused it, they would have no legal recourse.

Every physical activity known to man is "potentially dangerous" if undertaken by stupid people. That includes ALL theme park rides, including ones without previous incident.

But I'm not sure what spurred this response, as I never stated that they shouldn't consider any extra safety precautions prior to resuming the spinning, which is NOT a problematic condition in and of itself. It became a problem due to outside forces. One incident in 11 years of operation.

I was under the impression that the spinning was slowly coming back to the ride. Reports in May stated that it barely spun at all and the recent reports indicate it spins, just not as quickly. It's a shame really but at least the spinning didn't completely disappear. :(

I was there a few weeks ago and noticed on some of the lap bar/restraints they had installd netting. So maybe once they put this on all the ride vehicles we'll see more of the spinning. It's just not the same without it whipping you all over the place!!
