Today it is smoking, Tomorrow Alcohol, the next day Soda, next Sugar, next you have to make 100000 a year.
Why can't we go to the park to have fun, and not judge each other for our own preferences? Personally, I would eat a ton of chocolate, if I wasn't always watching my weight, to satisfy my Doctor's orders.

The next one I would like to see gone is the one by Aloha Isle. High traffic, high demand for seating at times, cherished product that is dependent on taste buds: does not equal smoking section in my opinion.

So where should the smoking areas be? If we have to have them, where are the smartest places?

The corner between Tony's and the Hat Shop where the FP machines used to be for Town Square M&G's?

Back in the alley way that is between Pirates and stroller parking?
How about the old arcade next to Space Mountain now that the games are gone. Put in a nice cigar bar and some of those big exhaust things that suck the air straight up.

A Disney theme park should not be an area that an asthmatic person might need to avoid.
Then they would need to stop selling perfumes (which for me personally is worse that cigarette smoke), prohibit perfumes from coming in the gate, stop selling nuts, and not show fireworks, among other things. In this world, it is pretty much impossible to make a place like WDW 100% safe for every asthmatic out there. It's the job of the asthmatic to manage his or her asthma and avoid triggers, and that includes knowing where smoking areas are and avoiding them.

Smoking areas are, for the moment, necessary. People who are smokers are going to light up. There is no way around it. If you eliminate smoking areas, then the problem of people smoking where they are not supposed to will only get worse, and the people who suffer the most from that would be asthmatics. We can avoid smoking areas. We cannot avoid people who choose to smoke where they are not supposed to, and eliminating smoking areas will only make that problem worse.

Nevertheless, the smoking area near the castle ramp was extremely poorly placed, and I am glad to see it go.

I don't go to the parks to judge anyone. Despite my posts, I do not judge smokers. They should be able to smoke whatever they want in the privacy of their own homes. If they want help quitting, it should be given for free and without judgement. If they don't want to quit then that is fine as well. No one has any reason to complain about a smoker who smokes in their own house or property - as long as it does not affect others who choose not to smoke.

The issue is that going to a Disney park is a choice; it is not a requirement, a necessity, or something one needs to do in order to live. Going to Disney is a luxury. It is time for Disney to force smokers to choose. Smokers can visit a Disney theme park if they choose not to smoke during their visit. If smokers don't accept, then that is their choice, but they don't get to go the park. It's that simple.

people who complain about smoking well why don't you complain about the bars at pool side. you say your kids have to walk thru the smoke, well my kids & myself have to watch people drink & get out of hand they should remove the pool side bars as well.
There's a big difference between watching another person do something and having physical contact with their "habit". Unless those people are dumping their drinks on you as you walk by it's not really the same thing. And with the price of drinks at those bars nobody is dumping them out;).

This is the attitude of the vast majority of smokers. It's sickening.

You do NOT have a right to smoke. If you did, you would be able to do it anywhere at any time.

I have a right to breathe, without inhaling the by-products of your addiction - an addition that has well-documented negative consequences. I should not have to do ANYTHING to accommodate your addiction. Asking anyone to accommodate your addiction is nothing more than a manifestation of your utter selfishness in choosing to smoke in public.

You are in the minority. The only reason that you are allowed to smoke in public AT ALL is because the majority is too lazy or apathetic to do anything about it.

Disney should eliminate all smoking areas in the parks. They only reason they exist is because Disney doesn't want the PR headache.
Wow, so harsh. I was that harsh on another topic when I joined, month's ago. After much, self reflection, I realize we are all human...can't judge each other....try to understand that we all have needs, I like chocolate to excess sometimes (in stressful situations), smoking or drinking , as a stress reliever is no different. I live in an area, due to granite, makes my lungs, look like I'm a 2 pack a day smoker, would anyone suggest I move? I don't think so , as I'm old and my kids are nearby when I need help.

To pontificate is to talk in a dogmatic and pompous manner. To pontificate properly, you need to be a know-it-all with very strong opinions and the urge to share them.

I agree with all of your post, with the exception of avoiding smoking areas. There should not be any smoking areas that need to be avoided.

When it comes to smoking, I do have strong opinions. My opinions are based on facts, as well as personal feelings. The fact that you don't like or agree with this does nothing to weaken my arguments.

If you want to smoke in your own house then go ahead, but if you want to go out in public then you should be considerate enough to not smoke.

No, they are not. Smokers don't have to go to Disney. They can choose to go and not smoke, or choose to smoke and not go. The problem is that Disney is not making them choose.
Yes, they are.

Smokers will go to Disney. They will smoke there. And unless you give them someplace to smoke or have security guards out chasing them and saying, "Drop the cigarette!", they are going to do it in the middle of the path, which is 100x worse for an asthmatic. So you give them areas where they can go smoke and areas that those with asthma can avoid. There's already an issue with smokers smoking where they are not supposed to; why make it worse by eliminating all of the places where they can do it?

In 20 years, maybe the rate of smoking will have decreased so much that Disney can relegate smoking to the parking lots or eliminate all of the areas. But for now, there are enough smokers that they need someplace to light up in the parks

Asthmatics have to be mindful of smoking areas everywhere they go, not just WDW. That's common sense and self preservation.

Walt's frozen head probably would disagree. Once the medical technology catches up and he gets a body again he'll straighten all this out...right after he stops for a cigarette;)

Non-smokers don't have to go to Disney either.
True. It's a luxury for smokers and non-smokers.

The issue is that non-smokers are the minority, and their habit affects others. If smokers were the majority, then I would have no argument. I would be the one who would have to make the choice to go or not to go.

I am not in the minority though. I am in the clear, overwhelming majority. All I'm asking is for smokers to realize that their choice affects others. If a smoker wants to smoke at home then I have no issue. The issue I have is smoking in public, and smokers should be considerate enough not to.

I have asthma, and I agree. My father, was a smoker. And I don't judge him for smoking, it was a thing in his time. People have the right to choose their options, I have my inhaler, for any situation (including, perfume), I just take a whiff and move on...I live in a very polluted area, and it's a fact of life. Where do I live, on the moon? Too much dust there, as I multiple allergies, :D I can't think of any place on earth that isn't a challenge to me, but I just do what I need to do. No Judgement!

The simple solution is to have out of the way areas designated for smokers that are clearly marked with signs. This way non-smokers would not be impacted in any way unless they intentionally walk into a smoking area. Then it's on them.

This argument is flawed. It's like saying we don't need laws at all because people are going to break the laws anyways.

If Disney prohibits smoking, and a smoker chooses to smoke, then security can escort them off property. If enough people are shown the door, word will get around and it will stop.

Wow, I hope I follow, all the new Disney rules.
