Castle Progress-Characters Added!!!!

The new castle decorations are lovely, and definitely enhance the existing architecture rather than detract from it (such as the wand on SSE). I do hope, however, that the characters don't get out of hand; although they're going to be fun to locate, I honestly don't understand why the characters were necessary to celebrate Disneyland's 50th anniversary. Also, are they going to follow the correct scale on the castle, or will they be so large that they destroy the forced perspective illusion?

On a side note, how much do you think these characters will cost once they get onto Ebay? :p Thread drift: When the wand comes off SSE, do you think Disney will attempt to sell pieces of it on Ebay? Most people would pay about--what?--$25? Maybe $100? Of course, Disney could just take pieces from it and slap them into small pins, then sell those pins as part of their new "Own a Piece of..." series. The Wand pins would probably be the least popular pins Disney ever produced!

I know I should be thankful they even remembered Louie, but I'd have loved if they had found a way to include Lady and the Tramp, the Fox and the Hound and the Aristocats. I'd have said a Dalmatian, but the live-action movies threw them into overkill.

Wow...it's looks really cool. But like y'all said, I hope it doesn't get too out of hand. Aren't they going to add Peter, Wendy, Michael, and (can't remember his name) flying around one of the spires?
Tinkerbell, Peter Pan, and Wendy will be circling the top spire. Michael and John have been left out.

From the distance shots I've seen, all the characters look like clumps of gold. Not sure if I like it YET.. haha I'll decide when I see it in May.

What is this paris castle cake you speak of?
I never saw this....do you have a pic by any chance?

Do you mean the carnival transformation to commemorate the Hunchback of Notre Dame? Don't remember a cake. This was in 1997, about the same time WDW had the cake (which I liked too!).

Judging from how the castle cake was designed, I doubt much of anything will be back there. If I remember correctly, even the pink paint stopped in the back.

And does anyone have any pictures to post, or know of any they can link to of this famed Castle Cake? I was never able to see it in person and I think I have forgotten the times I've seen pictures...

Thanks

A very poor photo, but you get the idea...

I personally did not like the pepto bismol pink castle cake. I think the transformation for the 50th looks much more magical and dignified. The gold accents look nice and the golden characters look great. I think the castle cake was obnoxious.

No, but judging from pictures, I think it was horrid. Not at all tasteful. I would have been seriously ed to come in have to walk down MSUSA looking at that thing.

I like Stitch, you like the castle. To each his own!

There was a Castle-to-Cake transformation in Paris to commemorate its 1st annivarsary many, many years ago...so basically WDW got the whole cake idea from Paris...

More Castle stuff

Hey!

Paris did have a castle cake, on its 1st Birthday. They gave it a giant candle, with giant lollipops, sweets and other candy and a big '1' slapped above the main entrance. Nice and subtle, but it had to be due to the financial decline it started to suffer in its first year. I'll try and look for a pic of it.

For the 5th, it had the fabulous festival of fools makeover, with the gargoyles on massive bells in central plaza. On the hour they turned and chimed. They are now backstage in Paris on a junction on one of the roads.

The Cinderella Castle transformed into a pink cake....didn't hate it, but think the bright pink all over was too much, particularly with all that Florida sunshine beaming down on it!

With Cinderella's castle now, I love it thus far. Thought I noticed what they were doing, getting characters that have only been 'born' from Disneyland's opening in 1955. However, that proved me wrong when I saw the Alice characters. But, I note that there are no characters pre- 1950???

Can't wait to see the magic castle mirror too, ever changing to show all 5 castles from all 5 MK's!!!

Going in June, and think I will spend my 1st day in Central Plaza just looking at it!

I have also heard they will be changing the music played down Main St. USA. Will be more magical than the 1900's ragtime they normally play. Anyone heard anything. The kissgoodnight is also been marked to change!

Simes

Like all the choices except the Hunchback characters

I actually think the hunchback trio is a perfect addition...they're gargoyles!

I thought it was reported that characters will be all AROUND the castle?

What's the criteria for the characters chosen anyway I mean sure most of them are 50's era characters but what are Flounder, Sebastian, Timon, Pumbaa and Simba doing there then?...I think the 3 fairies from Sleeping Beauty should be there
