I think this transformation will be great. Looking at the concept art, it looks like the characters won't be too overbearing, they will almost blend in to the point to where you will have to really look for them.

IMHO they should keep the gold accent "roof spirals" on the castle year round, they are a beutiful addition and really make the castle pop.

I think the Golden Cars is for Disneyland only... I saw some concept art in that package that Jay Rasluo (sp) gave out that hads the VMK pics in it. They looked really cool.

Tigsmom- I like the Castle Cake too! (If you liked WDW's, you'd looooovvvvveee Paris's Castle Cake)
What is this paris castle cake you speak of?
I never saw this....do you have a pic by any chance?

Here is a list of the characters to be added

Cheshire Cat and White Rabbit (from 1951's "Alice in Wonderland")
Peter Pan, Wendy and Tinker Bell (from 1953's "Peter Pan")
King Louie and Kaa (from 1967's "The Jungle Book")
Flounder and Sebastian (from 1989's "The Little Mermaid")
Simba, Timon and Pumbaa (from 1994's "The Lion King")
Victor, Hugo and Laverne (from 1996's "The Hunchback of Notre Dame")

Here is a link to another website that has concept art of the finished castle (close-up). There is only 3-pages that only contain 1-3 pictures, so click "more" to see them all.

Does anyone know when they are going to be installing the "Golden Cars" to the attractions (Dumbo).
Thanks for the link!!!!! Looking at the version of Kaa they have on the concept art and the one that was added, the statues are going to look much better in real life!! Kaa doesn't even look like Kaa to me in this picture...

I liked the castle cake too. I knew it wasn't going to be permanent, so why look at it as such, just enjoy it, besides it was a fun change. I really like the look of gold spires and think the characters are going to be a neat addition. They won't be permanent, but I hope the gold around spires are because I think it adds a nice touch. And, if anyone thinks that these things are over the top, well isn't that what Disney is all about anyhow, doing things above and beyond.

It is so exciting to slowly see the changes in the castle. It just adds to the anticipation for our trip. I can't wait to see everything completely done. It is very heartwarming for me to see so much attention and care being given to the parks after what I feel was a couple of years of a blase attitude by the company towards the state of WDW.

I think I'm most looking forward to peter pan, wendy and tinker bell flying around the top of the castle, that had to be my favorite part(character wise) in the concept art. Otherwise, looks cool so far! :sohappy:

Its looking very nice. I have been a bit skeptical of the characters since the concept art was released. Overall, the decorations (especially the rose swags) are actually a lot nicer than the concept art let on. I think the characters also look quite nice. I'm still worried it could go overboard, but the actual statues of the characters seem to be less imposing than portrayed in the concept art, so I think it will look very nice when all is said and done. I'm most curious about how that mirror/stained-glass centerpiece will look.

Add me to the list of those who liked the castle cake. I got to go see it twice when it was a cake, and loved it both times. I guess it helped to know it was temporary. But, the transformation worked to get people to the parks. I went with both my school and my family (6 months later). I think the cake was what made my family decide on that year to go to WDW.

On to 2005 (sorry for the drift). I really liked the concept art and I really like how it's looking so far. I can't wait to see the finished product!

I agree that the actual pictures from LaughingPlace look even nicer than the concept art! WOOHOO... I wonder who had the tough job of picking which characters to put up.... ah well.... (not to turn this into a "Which characters should be in Gold forumn... so please don't :p )

And does anyone have any pictures to post, or know of any they can link to of this famed Castle Cake? I was never able to see it in person and I think I have forgotten the times I've seen pictures...

Thanks

Louie will be there? Niiiiice! Jungle Book 2 could have been MUCH better if Prima's widow had let Disney include Louie in it.

Anyways, just reinstating what I said earlier: I like it, I just hope it doesn't go over the top. They're supposed to enhance the Castle, not take over it. Like Barnum said, no more wands, please.

Wow...it's looks really cool. But like y'all said, I hope it doesn't get too out of hand. Aren't they going to add Peter, Wendy, Michael, and (can't remember his name) flying around one of the spires?

I love what they are doing with the Castle!!! I think it looks great so far! Can't wait to see it in person in June! I'll probably take a TON of pictures!

I think Kaa looks really good. I'm looking forward to seeing the whole thing done, particularly Peter, Wendy and Tink flying around the spire.

The one part that worries me is the "magical stained glass-style window" that will show images of the five iconic castles from Disney theme parks around the world. From the concept art it looks like it is going to be just too big and draw away from the castle as a whole. But we'll see.

And I, for one, thought the castle cake was UG-LY.

I think the characters will add quite a bit to the castle. Also, if yoyu don't like them, it looks like you'll actually have to be looking for them to notice them, except for Kaa and the Peter Pan characters, which should be really noticable.

On a side note, there were a few comments that the concept art Kaa looks weird. If you look closely at the concept art, you can see that King Louie has dropped a banana peel on Kaa's head. I'm glad they scrapped that idea, since it's not obvious why Kaa looks odd, and a bit disgruntled. Though it's kind of a cool idea to have an interaction among the gold characters.

It looks wonderful in person, and most guests I talked to yesterday didn't even notice it, nor did any of my fellow cast memebers. It looks great, not tacky at all. :)

Does anyone know if you can actually see the gold chacters from the ground? It seems that the Hunchback statues are too small to be seen from the ground. :veryconfu

I am not bothered by this (hopefully TEMPORARY) novel addition. :)

But it humors me to think of it as a physical symbol of a WDW "movie character invasion." :lookaroun
