Cast Members & smokers

A tip of my Stetson and a sincere 'thanks' to all the Cast Members who enforce the "No Smoking" rules...it seemed a lot of people were breaking the rules this year and smoking anywhere they felt like it...most CMs approached guests and kindly asked them to smoke in the designated areas but there were a few CMs who lacked the gonads to confront the guests.

It wouldn't have too much of a negative effect on them. It is like restaurants, if it is totally non-smoking people still go. Now I know a whole day in a theme park is different than a meal at a restaurant, but I still think that if a person wanted to go they could live without a cigarette.

I enforce the rules... however, almost 2 years ago, a guest put their cigarette out on me... that deterred me for a few weeks

 That's terrible!!!!!

Were you able to do anything about it or did you have to stand there and smile like a good little Cast Member?

What is WRONG with people...

Sheeesh, Rob....did u get burned badly?....what happened to the guest?...if I saw someone do that to a CM, they'd have to carry the guest out of the park.

...last week, a CM at the Animal Kingdom asked a guest to put out a cigarette and the guy said ok but gave the CM a dirty look....when she turned her back and walked away the guy gave her the finger and continued to smoke...she came back over to him and directed him to a designated smoking area that was about 5o feet away....he said he would finish his cigarette in a few minutes....knowing the CM was frustrated, I looked at the guy and told him I was gonna come over there and put the cigarette out for him ... in a matter of minutes, security appeared and escorted the guy out of the park...the CM gave me a thumbs up and a nice smile...

...the CMs put up with a lot of crap from moronic people!

For the safety and comfort of others smoking should be banned, if it cuts down on crowds - so what. Those who do attend have less time waiting in lines.

I'm sorry - but those of you who are addicted to the weed, surely you can go a day without your fix ??

The county I live in (Erie for those who know WNY) has banned smoking in all public buildings excluding bars. There was a bit of fuss at first, but everyone has adapted. Now even in the middle of the frigid Buffalo winter, smokers have to go outside. The situation has its pros and cons (most of the cons are from the smoker's perspective), but all in all I think it is for the best. There is no ambiguity.

I realize the two situations aren't totally similar, but I think most people are adaptable. You can't avoid making rules because some people are going to be resistant.

It stinks. Kids are in these parks. Second hand is pretty bad!! I bet every day APs can develop lung cancer walking around for a year!!

agreed. kids are there. I grew up where smoking was totally forbidden anywhere we went, which I a mreally glad my parents did. I can handle it now, but kids have such tiny little lungs......

you really can't force people to not smoke at all, but I am glad there are the designated smoking areas. I totally avoid them at all costs.

I guess smokers don't realize sometimes that they are harming others. but I know some that do (my future in-laws), and those people are pretty alright.

Before this turns into a "lets bash smokers" thread.....

Most of us DO obey the rules!

Last year was my first trip to wdw in 10years....
I knew nothing about the smoking policy at the parks.....
But...when I near the Hall of Presidents...(I never smoke in a que)a CM came up to me and asked me to estinguish my cig....and I did right then and there...then I picked it up off the ground..after I stepped on it..made sure it was out...and thew it in the garbage :D

Not all "smokers" are bad. (It's really bad on cruise ships, though!)

But, since I know lots are reading this thread - please try to get off. It's really safe...and if you put your mind to it, it can be done. Walt died from smoking - if he didn't, see how different the world would have been? How about your world? :(

oh no, I didn't mean to say that smokers were bad or anything....

I ment to say that some are very inconciderate, and they make a bad name for all of the other smokers.

and thank you for obeying the rules. :) and you even cleaned up after yourself! how kind!!

and I agree with grizzly.

...you're right, most people do obey the rules and I'd hate to see it go to a "smoke free" park ...no one is gonna get lung cancer from occasionally inhaling second hand smoke...if that were true, many of us old timers who grew up with smokers in the house, frequented bingo halls, and had a drink or two at the gin mill, would be long dead by now.

...for me, the smoke was exagerated by the wicked heat we experienced and it was difficult to catch a breath when someone was smoking around you ... but I worry more about little kids getting burned if a smoker is careless as he walks thru the park holding a cigarette in hand.

btw, how many of you have passed thru the designated smoking area on your way in or out of RnR....cough, cough....HOLY COW...that area can get heavy with smoke at times.
