Cast Member Standards

After spending nearly a week in WDW and then nearly a week on DCL it’s a bit shocking how different the level of CM service is, the CMs at WDW were all good and we didn’t have a single issue with any of them but the CMs on DCL are the most friendly and amazing people anywhere. It’s a noticeable difference.

Definitely an apples and oranges comparison as the guest to CM ratio is probably 100 to 1 at WDW vs probably 2 to 1 on DCL but everyone from our room attendant, to our servers, to our bartenders, to the CMs manning the aquaduck entrance and the spa entrance were just incredible on DCL.

DCL also seems to have retained the old appearance standards, we didn’t see any unique hair colors, no visible tattoos, no “personalization” like you see with the CMs at the parks. Most the CMs on DCL seem to be from foreign nations though so maybe that’s more a symbol of American culture rather than a Disney standard.
That's why all cruise ships are foreign-flagged, they don't have to follow US labor laws.

I can honestly say this has never happened to me.
Genuine questions: Are you at DLR weekly? Do you spend a majority of time with characters and entertainment cast? This is where I see this behavior clustering.

In just my last 3 visits, I've experienced toddlers physically climbing over me and my bags to get me to aim my camera at them when I'm trying to film someone else. I've seen them jumping in front of other families' photos and posing for those other families' cameras and when their parents don't pull them away, the cast members have to ask these children to step out of the photos. I've seen kids run to stand in front of performing groups, turn their backs on the groups and face the crowd and start performing their own dance routines to try to get other people to film them and when others wouldn't, then they'd walk away.

It's sad and it's disrespectful to cast, characters, performers and other guests. And the parents do nothing to correct the behavior and often times encourage it.

Alrighty then.
