My son wants to spend his birthday (early August) 2012 at DL specifically so he can go to Carsland. Will it be open by then? Thanks.

Supposedly, yes. The official opening date has been widely rumored to be "June, 2012".

Aparently enough to theme an entire land around. I am sure they know what they are doing before leaping into this one.

WDI apparently feels they can at least come up with three, as there are three of them that open with Cars Land in 2012;

Luigi's Flying Tires

Tow Mater's Junkyard Jamboree

And Radiator Springs Racers

I'm sure there will be long lines for all three of 'em. :lol:

A look at some of the new structures that are being built, everything from Lizzie's Curios Shop to Flo's V8 Cafe

RSR Track installation.. The cranes will soon be installing the remaining steel on the eastern side of the land

They have started sculpting the rock on the side of the mountain that faces the Pacific Wharf area

a laborious task to say the least, and they still have to paint all this!

And then there's this. Seriously... when you see this stuff on paper and see the models. It's all very hard to think about how big it's actually going to be. Then you see this. There's more steel going up just for thematic elements on this than almost any other project that they've ever taken on here in the states. I mean, this really is hugely superfluous... it serves no purpose other than to look pretty and support an attraction.

This has to be basically the largest rockwork project next to DisneySea's Mt. Prometheus (and is being done by the same person).

^^^ Those pictures are amazing! With each set of pictures that roll in Cars Land looks more and more spectacular. I was looking at the project from inside the park recently, and it's even more impressive in real life.

And then you realize that this whole thing is happening in DCA, of all places! If you had tried to tell any of us 10 years ago that this is what DCA would look like on its 11th anniversary no one could have ever believed you! But there it all is, plain as day, and getting more impressive by the week.

Constrution is progressing nicely, as almost every building in downtown Radiator Springs has started construction. Lizzie's shop is the first building to be fully enclosed!

On the left of this picture is the start of construction for a Cozy Cone!

And over here they continue to install more wire mesh cages for the rockwork

They removed the scaffolding on this side of the mountain (facing the Pacific Wharf).

Meanwhile they continue demolition of the old Farmers Market.. Cars Land construction will move into this area once they prep the land for work.

Today at DCA they celebrated the "Topping Out" ceremony for Cars Land:

I witnessed a milestone in the multi-year expansion of Disney California Adventure park today. I joined some media and watched the “topping out” ceremony for the Cadillac Mountain Range’s tallest peak. At 125 feet, it’s the most visible part of the new 12-acre Cars Land, which is scheduled to open in 2012.

At the base of this mountain range will be the entrance to Radiator Springs Racers, the E-ticket thrill ride which will headline Cars Land along with other attractions, food and merchandise shops all based on the Disney-Pixar blockbuster, “Cars.”

“Topping out” is a traditional construction event among construction workers and engineers that takes place when the highest piece of steel is installed on the frame of a building. Today, we were privileged to observe this ceremony, which marked a major milestone in the construction of this new and exciting land.

Hooray for rockwork! I love how, as bare bones as the steel framework is right now, you can still see the shape of the soon-to-be cadillac mountain range. Can't wait to see more!

It IS amazing to see it in person. Photos do not do it justice! I stood at the railing by the Winery and just peered into the area. Unbelievable. I saw it a year ago, and couldn't believe the diifferences.
Who would ever have guessed DCA would one day become a real park- maybe even a better one than DHS!

A list of Cars Land facts, posted on LaughingPlace.com

* The Cadillac Range is a one-of-a-kind structure with 4,000 tons of steel spread over 280,000 square feet, approximately 125 feet high, and with virtually no 90 degree angles.

* Over 28,000 hours were spent by WDI designers on the structural steel system and Radiator Springs Racers show building, housed within the structure.

* Steel installation began in March of this year.

* The six “peaks” of the Cadillac Range represent the 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961,
and 1962 model year tailfins. The highest peak is the 1959, also known as the Pinnacle.

* The Cadillac Range at Carsland is the largest rockwork construction in any domestic Disney theme park, surpassing the Matterhorn, both Splash Mountains, and Expedition Everest.

The simple fact that the view from inside DCA of the Anaheim hotel skyline is being replaced with the Cadillac Range, speaks volumes about the transformation of this park.

In person, as you walk around the park and peek through construction walls, this Cars Land project looks 10 times more impressive in person than it does in these already excellent pictures. This thing is going to be the biggest deal to hit Disney theme parks since the Indiana Jones Adventure.

Thanks very much for updating this thread w/pics. Being on the East Coast, it is easy to forget the construction for Carsland is going strong out in CA. To say that I can't wait to finally get out to DL in the summer of 2012 and see Carsland completed would be an understatement!
