I have to say I'm even more excited after looking at all the newly released art. I love the concept of Luigi's italian garden as a queue, the outdoor dining area in Flo's Cafe looks great, and I'm excited about RSR and the way it will combine dark ride elements with a thrill ride.

Here are some videos from the What's Next? event at DCA last week. Imagineer Kathy Magnum provided a sneak peek at some of the rides:

Just finally watched that new Radiator Springs Racers vid. Sorry to be a downer here, but doesn't this entire ride just seem super dated already!? Some of those scenes seem like they're ripped right out of Test Track (the paint scene looks identical to the corrosion gag!!!), just with a Cars overlay.

Don't get me wrong -- thematically this looks incredible and top notch, but from an on-ride perspective it makes Disney look like dinosaurs compared to what Universal has been doing for the past 10 years.

And at an estimated 4min ride time, it's even shorter than the original. :(

The Disney Parks Blog has a new video of RSR vehicle testing:

http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2010/06/radiator-springs-racers-is-on-track-to-star-at-cars-land/

“Cars” is one of my all-time favorite films from Pixar and that’s why I’m so excited to give you a peek at the vehicle testing for Radiator Springs Racers. This thrilling new attraction is set to open in 2012 with the debut of Cars Land at Disney California Adventure park. Vehicle testing is an important milestone in the development process and that means we’re one big step closer to racing through this new land. Testing is expected to continue through the end of July, then the car comes off the track while construction is completed.

The bright cars you see here will each carry six guests through the twists and turns of Ornament Valley. Radiator Springs Racers covers a lot of ground – nearly half of the 12 acres in Cars Land! Check out our video and imagine what this high-speed adventure will be like.

they're digging pretty deep here:

That must be the Luigi's Flying Tires attraction pad! They've got to dig down deep to contain all the air compressors and equipment to create the lift to make the tires float and levitate off the ground.

There was a picture of the Flying Saucers basement in the 1960's in an old E Ticket Magazine, and it was big enough for Walt to stand up in.

For a comparison of ride length, give or take a few seconds:

Test Track, Epcot - 4:30
Journey To The Center Of The Earth, DisneySea - 3:30
Radiator Springs Racers, DCA - 4:00

I was surprised at the short time for Journey at DisneySea. That's one of my favorite rides there, I've ridden it multiple times in recent years, and I never realized that it was so short! It seems much longer, although it might have to do with the dramatic buildup to the loading area with the elevator pre-show and such. Still, they did an amazing job of making a 3:30 minute thrill ride seem just as enjoyable as the ten minute long Haunted Mansion or Pirates rides.

And yet Test Track is a full minute longer, but the entertainment there only comes in short bits with long stretches of underwhelming effects or scenery. I'd take a minute less of Journey To The Center Of The Earth any day!

Watching this excellent preview of Radiator Springs Racers with the plotline and show scenes laid out, I have a hunch RSR is going to be a huge hit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smbKsrnT3B8&feature=player_embedded

I would hope that the new Carsland has some trees in the town area. John Lassetter pushed for much accuracy in the new land, and seeing as Radiator Springs in the movie doesn't have much vegetation, I would hope this is remedied at the park.

^ the concept art shows plenty of vegetation in and around the area - i'm not sure how much of that will actually go into the finished product.

also, the Flying Tires ride will feature Luigi's garden as the queue -

Does this mean Bug's Land is going to?

Bugs Land is made up of 2 well Disney says 3 areas, ITTBAB, Flicks Fun Fair, and Bountiful Valley Farms. The Bountiful Valley Farms area includes, the bug gardens, a water play area, P.T Fleas(pin shop which will be moved to Paradise Gardens) Farmers Market(quick service), a fruit stand and a few other small eateries.

Cars Land construction is making lots of progress! Here's the view from the Balcony level of the Hyperion Theatre -

The massive steel structures in the distance, these will cover the views of the power lines and convention center that you see in the background. This particular section is located in front of the RSR showbuilding

Here you can see the progress in the rock work. Looks really great! there's still a lot of work left to do though -- this is just one side of the mountains that will serve as the backdrop for Radiator Springs.

I was marveling at Cars Land on Sunday afternoon. It's a MASSIVE expansion project, that's for sure. Pictures can't do it justice, but are helpful for those outside of SoCal.

It is now towering over that end of the park, and it's going to be a much better backdrop than power lines and space age arenas and high rise hotels that were seen from inside DCA since 2001.

It's already blocked out the view from many areas in the park, and it's surprising how quickly it's coming along. And yet, we'll all be exploring this land in less than two years, so I guess it's right on track.

Things sure are hopping inside DCA right now! It's fascinating to walk through this park while it is in heavy construction mode and metamorphosis.

^for me I guess it hard for me to get excited for this land until I see it done, we have so much other stuff heading to the park before it opens (Star Tours 2, Littler mermaid, new parade, Tron, 2 more Christmas's and Halloween's)

I just hope its not another bugs land, which im sure its not but hey you never know.

Hey, what's wrong with a bug's land? ;)

The rides at Flik's Fun Fair may be aimed at little kids, but the attention to detail/themeing is fantastic. Anyway I doubt Cars Land will be similar.. At 12 acres in size it will be much bigger, a lot more expensive, and rides that will appeal to a wider audience.

Here's another look at the rockwork, this time from inside the construction zone! It was posted on MiceChat by Flik but I don't know how he obtained it or what the original source is..
