They won't release an official opening date until next year, but right now it's estimated to be completed by Summer 2012 (June-July).

An overview of Cars Land from yesterday's "What's Next" presentation. The media event was held inside the construction area, beneath the mountain archway that connects the new land to Pacific Wharf.

The presentation features a closer look at the shops, restaurants, and rides, the latest progress of construction, and more details about RSR and the ride queue:

A new D23 article summarizes the new Cars Land additions, and much more:

http://d23.disney.go.com/articles/060410_NF_FS_WhatsNext.html

Kathy Mangum, executive producer and vice president, Walt Disney Imagineering, said Radiator Springs Curio Shop would sell pins and small merchandise items based on actual curio shops along the real-life Route 66.

Food will be inspired by food found along Route 66, including macaroni and cheese, savory sandwiches, and a lot of pie.

Flo's V8 Cafe will tell the never-before-told backstory of Flo, who was part of the Motorrama Girls, a touring group out of Detroit, through posters from their tours and all her gold records.

Kevin Rafferty, senior concept writer, Walt Disney Imagineering, revealed that all-new music is being written to go along with Mater's Junkyard Jamboree attraction.

The four corners of Radiator Springs, where all the commerce of the small town is, will completely be lit up with neon at night, just like the film.

Out of the 12 acres of Cars Land, six acres is dedicated to Radiator Springs Racers.

The story of the founding father of Radiator Springs Racers, Stanley, will be told in the attraction queue. He founded a radiator cap business with a product called Nature's Coolant. So the shaded waterfall queue area, which was the first settlement for Radiator Springs, will wind through Stanley's original oasis, including his original radiator cap shop, a service station he built, a glass bottle house, which is a roadside attraction he made out of glass bottles, and the Cozy Caverns Motorcourt.

Walt Disney Imagineering is over the halfway mark of the construction of Cars Land.

I'm not a kid, but I'm kind of excited to actually walk into Radiator Springs! And Racers looks like it's going to be a lot of fun!

Thanks for sharing :)

The Disney Parks Blog has new behind-the-wall pictures of construction:

Reading your comments on our recent virtual “drive-through” of the upcoming Cars Land at Disney California Adventure park, I could see that many Disney Parks Blog readers were excited to see what’s in store when the new experience opens next year. Today, we’ve got even more for you to see – new behind-the-wall photos of Radiator Springs Racers.

"In this first image, you can see the Cadillac Mountain Range continuing to take shape, with one of the banked turns of Radiator Springs Racers in the foreground."

"Here’s a close-up of one of the banked turns, in which you can see the double-track where the ride vehicles will race side-by-side."

"In this broader view, you can get a feel for the scope of this attraction. Hills, banked turns, straightaways – who’s ready to go for a spin?"

Wow. Just look at that place! I can hardly imagine how much fun it's going to be next summer being able to walk through this entire town and amazing landscape, exploring all the shops and restaurants and rides.

And I'm an adult who has never even seen the Cars movies. I bet the average 7 year old who has grown up adoring the world of Cars is going to have a complete meltdown upon seeing Cars Land for the first time.

Can anyone tell me if Carsland will have any shade? From the concept art and all these progress pictures, it doesn't look like any shade (trees and such) will be installed.

Is that right?

It's said that one of the requests John Lasseter made to the WDI was to make sure to include plenty of trees and greenery in the new land. You'll notice in the pictures posted on the previous page that they have already added many trees near the queue of Radiator Springs Racers (on the right side of this picture) The actual queue for the ride will take you through Stanley's Oasis which is supposed to be a lush and shaded area next to the waterfall.

Keep in mind there's still about a year left of construction -- more trees will be planted as construction progresses. Right now they are wrapping up the sculpting and painting of the rock.

This is an early model, but it shows the general layout of the trees in the new area

This caught my eye from Al Lutz on Miceage this morning...

"Since the budget on just Tow Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree (shown above) has swelled past the 100 Million mark, for example, WDI will be eager to show where all the money is going on what many people wrongly assume is just a simple spinner." -Al Lutz

Wow. 100+ Million bucks spent on Tow Mater's?!? Mater better be darn good at doing the squaredance calls for the tractors!

How the heck does this one (seemingly) little attraction exceed 100 million!? Isn't that more than the entire Little Mermaid ride?

What! 100 million for Maters!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll raise my hand to say I thought it was just a redressed carnival spinner, I thought of something along the lines of a more advanced Francis' Ladybug Boogie. Looking forward to seeing what they have in store.

Excellent. I figured after all the critisizm TDA got for the lack of shade at DCA that Carsland would need trees. I guess I just hadn't paid close enough attention to the concept art. Thanks for the help on this one sponono!
