Has anyone else heard the rumor that the Carousel of Progress is going to be replaced by an Incredibles Robo-coaster? The Carousel of Progress is my favorite ride and I think I may cry if it's no longer at Disney!!!!

No, It's not going to happen, at least soon.

Disney has recently been putting money into the CoP, so an update is more likely than it being replaced.

Rest at ease.:)

What money have they been putting into it? The new poster? I doubt that cost much.

There have been persistent rumors that CoP will not make it to tWDW's 40th anniversary.

This rumor has rolled around multiple times before. One saving grace is that the Kuka robot arm that was presumed to be the basis of any such coaster is now heavily licensed for amusement technology purposes to Universal.

EDIT: Welcome to WDWMagic, by the way!

Disney has also been refurbishing the interior of CoP, and Disney just doesn't spend money on something that they plan to close soon.

Horizons was practically rotting when they tore it down.

The only way CoP could close would be if Disney announced the were building a E-Ticket (or two) where the Skyway, CoP, and GPT are. And that won't even possibly happen for a LONG time.
I think the only major changes coming to TL soon is the Space Mountain refurb.

There are expansion pads available at MK without destroying this attraction.

Why would they remove CoP for a coaster? There is plenty of room for both, if their is indeed any validity to this rumour.

Besides, taking out CoP for demolition would also mean taking out the TTA.

I really do not see them taking out two attractions for a roller coaster.

While I would not agree that CoP is closing for a Arm attraction any time soon. I would double check your info on them not doing it for a LONG time :zipit: ummmmmmm :lookaroun nevermind. Oh and that Space Mountain refurb that was supposed to have started 3 times now?

Donate CoP

The thing that would make my day is if Disney donated the CoP to the new Walt Disney museum at the Presidio. I know there is probably not room for it but if you think about it the actual show building is not that large. It just seems like a worthwhile place for it to go since it has such a long history with Walt Disney. Just a thought.

I think that is an excellent idea. If indeed anything does happen, I would hope for a little preservationist approach, instead of complete demolition and selling off on MouseSurplus.

While I believe change is usually a positive thing, isn't there other space(s) in the MK that could be used for an addition of E-Ticket type ride rather that Tear down COP, which IMO is a Classic "Walt" Ride??

As much as I love CoP the way it is, I really do think an update for the final scene is needed. And, AAs as advanced as the new ones in SSE would be very welcome in all the scenes.

The final scene was great (emphasis on "was")... but needs to be changed (every time Grandma plays that virtual reality game it reminds me of Star Fox 64 due to the mid-90's graphics!).

One of the other possibilities they may be considering is the new Walt Disney Story that is supposed to be going into DCA. Seems logical if they are going to build the attraction to have the CoP be a part of it. Other good ideas I have heard are Epcot and The Smithsonian. The one place that just seems wrong over the long haul is the MK. But that is just my opinion.

CoP is safe at this point.
Several concepts that would require it's removal have come up in the last few years, but none have come to fruition.
It is, however, one of the more expendible attractions in the park.

Seating, carpet, ceiling work...

That is only the beginning. We won't be seeing it go anywhere anytime soon.

I have a feeling that the Carousel of Progress very much will be here for WDW 40th Anniversary, in new and updated glory.:sohappy:

Maybe someday the CoPwill have a new ending....or two new scenes (if they decide to remove the unload theater, and make people exit the load theatre on one side and enter on the other)

April 22, 2014 will be the CoP's 50th anniversary.....great time to revise a ride and get it noticed for summer crowds, especially if a new ride can be built next to it to help get people over to that side of tomorrowland.

Let's just say some imagineers are pretty fond of the 1960s scene.......:)
