There certainly are ties into the park's Castle and Kingdom.but I also think it does not have a whole lot to do with Disney.
Prince Charming's Regal Carousel ties in with the story line associated with the Castle and it's inhabitants, the royal family. It reflects the Prince's training device to practice jousting.
Even before the change when it was just Cinderella's Golden Carousel, it held Cindy's horse, has Disney musical tunes playing and illustrations of the story of Cinderella.
Or if by Disney you are referring to Walt, the tie in is how he got the thought of staring the parks by watching his daughters ride on the rides at Griffith park.
I vote to keep the Carousel.... And I thought it always belonged somewhere out in front of the Castle.
